Photomechanic and previewing CO files
I use Capture One 7 in a sessions format for all my NEF files, but I typically use Photomechanic to both ingest from cards and to peruse files at later times.
I'd like to ask what the appropriate settings in Capture One's preferences>metadata should be in order to make sure that any IPTC metadata/color flags/etc set in Photomechanic are not altered in Capture One. Also, my understanding is that I'll be better served with Photomechanic if Capture One is/can make use of separate xmp sidecar files. What needs to be set in order for this to occur?
One other thing I'm noticing is that when I'm in Photomechanic looking into a capture/selects folder in Capture One, the colors of the images are quite a bit off. Skin tones are extremely red, etc. I don't know if I should be troubleshooting this as a color profile issue, or something going amiss with the jpeg previews?
Could anyone advise me as to how I should have the preferences in Capture One configured to make the most out Photomechanic for previewing?
Thanks!
Chawn

Hi Chawn,
Two issues, metadata and (presumably) color management. As you noted, you work with sessions.
Metadata issue
Based on your description, you can keep Capture One at its default metadata setting (Preferences > Image > Metadata section > Auto Sync Sidecar XMP > None). This way CO7 will load the metadata on first opening/importing the image, but does not write metadata changes to the XMP file belonging to that image.
Photo Mechanic 5 (PM) can both embed metadata in the NEF file or write it to a sidecar XMP file. To choose for the latter, go to the Preferences in PM > IPTC/XMP tab > section with header "When writing IPTC/XMP" > For TIFF-based RAW photos > check "Always create and/or update XMP sidecar file".
Run some tests with untouched images in your workflow to iron out any details.
Color management issue
Perhaps the color management setting in PM5 needs some attention. In PM5 Preferences > Color Management have the first two boxes checked. Even then it still can go wrong: have the "Perform color matching" setting enabled (colored symbol at the right in the program's toolbar).
Hope this helps.0
