Cataloging software? Aperture??

Hi,

I'm new relatively new to the forum and the Capture One program.

Would someone mind sharing with me what program you are using for cataloging your images? What software works well with C1? I've read the iView workflow overview but am interested in exploring other options to see how well they can integrate into Capture One. Is anyone using Aperture for sorting, editing and cataloging? Any other suggestions?

  Hi,
  
  I use aperture for some of the pictures I do (I might use it more since the new update) with the latest update you can access files that are not in your library (having all your pictures in 1 library files is very dangerous)
  
  I use C1Pro most of the time (creating sessions is perfect for cataloging) and the destination engine is better that the one used in aperture

  The Aperture library is not a file, it's a folder. That makes it just as safe as any other system of folders.

  When I open a FINDER window then click on the PICTURES shortcut I then have a few folders : Capture One Default Session : iChat Icons : iPhoto Library : Photo Booth...
  
  I also have a single file (currently 10 GB) named APERTURE LIBRARY. So you are telling me that this is not my Aperture Library? That this single file does not contain all the pictures I see when I open Aperture?
  
  With the 1.5 update, aperture can now display pictures located in other locations (folders) without first importing them in the Aperture Library.
  
  So if you are not importing pictures in the Aperture Library you cant say that you are cataloging picture with Aperture!
  
  The cataloging is then manually done in finder using folders. Aperture is only used the look/edit/process the pictures.
  
  I you tell Aperture to take control over the files it will create a Single file called Aperture Library.

  The Aperture Library looks like a single file, but it's a so called 'package' in reality. Packages are folders, but the Finder shows them as files. MacOS X applications are also packages.
  
  To see what the library really is, do the following: Select the library and control-click. A hierarchical menu will come up. Choose 'Show Package Contents'. You've now opened the library the way you can open any folder. Inside you will see that each project is also a package, which you can open in the same way. Then you will find all your original RAW files, each in its own folder. You will now understand that the Aperture library is not a single file, so it can not become corrupted as a single file. Your RAW files are just as safe as in any other folder structure.
  
  Another nice way of showing that the library is really just a folder is using iView Multimedia Pro. Open a new catalog and drag and drop the Aperture library onto that catalog. You will be surprised to see that iView has no trouble at all finding and cataloguing all the files in the Aperture library. You can even use that cataloge to open those files directly in another program such as Photoshop, without having to open the library first.
