    Hi
I had a quick go with my D3x yesterday and was finding it took around 5 secs to see a preview, tried on 2 newish Macs and both were same, this was full size NEF.
I found this rather to slow for my needs.

    Oh dear.

Then it is not going to be much better than shooting through Camera Control Pro 2 to a hot folder. Somehow, only the Canons play better with C1 Pro. I love tethering 12Mp 5D because it is so fast but 12Mp D2X via CCPro 2 takes 5 to 6 secs to show up in C1 Pro. This kind of speed makes no sense to shoot tethered.

I wonder how fast are files from P45/P45+ reaching C1 Pro? Anyone?

    Hi
Raw files shot with p45+ take around 1.5 secs to show on screen, much better than D3x, shame as USB 2 should be as fast as firewire ??
Does anyone know why the Nikon is so slow using USB ?

Until Apple gets there image extension driver fixed there is nothing PhaseOne can do.

    Hi Lance
Can you explain a little more, does the "image extension driver" just affect USB 2 and not firewire, hence when using USB 2 its slower than firewire..
    Thanks

    Hi Andy,

Actually I'm refering to the issue of how slow tethered shooting becomes after a number of images with the Nikons. It doesn't matter if you are shooting firewire or usb.. The image capture extension is the issue with the tethered shooting coming to a halt as far as speed goes. I'm done multiply tests with this shooting D3's and sent the info to apple so they can see the amount of memory that isn't being released from image capture extension shown by my activity monitor.

Phaseone and Apple are aware of this issue but Phaseone's hands are basically tied with this until Apple gets off there ass. This also seems to be a nikon issue only.

Its definitely a Canon issue as well. Phase One transfer and display times are faster since we can design our own tethering protocol to match the software perfectly.. with DSLR we have to rely on Nikon and Canon SDK which involves quite a bit of Apple's file handling.
