If you upgrade from 7.x to 8.2, you can

    - install 8.2 on two machines

    - install 8.2 on one machine, and use the 8.2 product code to activate 7.x on another machine (some people do this because, for example, they have one machine that is capable of running 8.2, and one that is not)

I think that sums up your options, but if I'm wrong, no doubt someone will be along soon to explain further.

So then the upgrade to 8.2 invalidates the 7.X license and it cannot be used unless used with an 8.2 license number?

Thank you for the response. I did not know that and the upgrade policies from different software companies vary considerably. Some allow use of the previous version, some do not. Based on what you posted PhaseOne does not. Good to know.

Yes I believe that is right - so you are entitled to run C1 on two machines, but it doesn't have to be the latest version on both of them.

It doesn't invalidate it, it supersedes it. So, in effect you can use the latest version for which the license had been purchased, as well as earlier versions (as explained above). You can not give the CO7 license to someone else, as it is personal to you and your use.

OK. But that implies that I could not stop using the product now and give my current 8.X license to someone else. Given that, how do you buy the product as a gift for someone?
