CaptureOne 8.x cannot find my Nikon d810
hello,
I've been using my Nikon D800 and D810 tethered with my Macbook Pro with Yosemite for a while now.
All at sudden Capture One doesn't see my D810 anymore. It will see the D800 thought.
I checked my d810 with another mac (Capture One 8.x on IMac with Yosemite) and it recognizes it just fine.
Have you heard or seen anything like this? Any ideas?
Thank you in advance for your help!
Best,
Oscar

I also have problems with my D810 and Yosemite on my Macbook Pro. Latest Capture One 8.3.4 and latest firmware for D810.
I can capture 1 frame, then CO drops the connection. "No camera attached"
Thankful for any help!

check these things:
1) cable - try different usb cables, definately use an active extension for cables longer than 4m, use high quality cable (roline 5m active usb3 extension works very reliable for me)
2) try a high quality usb3 hub with external power. get a 4 port hub, not 7 port. i bought an industrial grade hub from EXSYS. if you want to test without hub first then at least unplug ALL other usb devices (especially harddrives) and make sure your computer ist plugged into it's charger.
3) firmware update on the camera?
4) reset capture one (search this forum for instructions)
5) make sure you selected NIKON and unselect CANON in the C1 settings
6) clean all user and system caches, i do this with the help of a little app called MAINMENU PRO. this worked wonders for me once when i had severe thether issues.
7) reset PRAM and SMC on mac. (instructions via apple.com / google)0 -
The D810 seems to be very sensitive to power issues and using the small usb3 connector, also very sensitive to mechanical play.
A few things you can do:
- Use high quality USB3 cables, it actually does matter.
- Use the stress-relief provided with camera, always. Failure to do so, will cause the port in the camera to bend and expand slightly, which will cause intermittent mechanical connectivity issues.
- Use a high quality powered hub0 -
My problem has been solved. I talked to the TetherTools Swedish agency today and it seems they received a batch of bad "TetherPro angled cables". They swapped mine to a straight one and it works like a charm.

Hans, I'd strongly reccomend NOT to use any thirdparty cables that can't be used with the original Nikon Cable Clip. And to my knowledge to date there aren't any.
As Christian pointed out alreadyit will cause the port in the camera to bend and expand slightly, which will cause intermittent mechanical connectivity issues.
This means you should use the usb cable + clip that came in the box with your camera and if you need more reach use an active USB extension, e.g. from TetherTools (though imho there are similar and cheaper options). Also you could use an additional cable fixation like the Thetherblock to avoid ruining your usb port.0
