Customized Keyboard Shortcuts disappear while working
Hi all,
I am trying to migrate to Capture One from Lightroom.
So far I like it a lot, even though a lot of little things could be improved.
I have extensively customized the interface and the keyboard shortcuts (this thing alone is worth for me switching to Capture One).
I am having a problem where some of my customized shortcuts go missing while I am working. I set them back again, they work, after some time I develop they are gone.
Simple things like draw mask, erase mask, gradient mask etc work only temporarily and then they are gone.
I would assume this is a pretty basic feature and it should work out of the box, is anybody else having the same issue? Any suggestions?
Thanks,
G. Improta

So I am assuming this isn't happening to anybody else?
Or you haven't set many shortcuts?
This is really slowing me down, any help is much appreciated.
Thanks

If you have not already done so I would create a Support Case and take this up with the Support team.

ETA: You have saved the new set of definitions with its own name and that is the set selected when this problem occurs?
Just checking as I seem to recall something from a long way back that was to do with not saving the new definitions with a new name.
It may also be pertinent to know what new key combinations you have used for the problem functions.0 -
I opened a support case already.
Yes, the custom set is selected, as only some of the keyboard shortcuts go missing not all of them, and it seems always the same ones.
For example, the fill-mask command works, when I assign something to the erase mask and gradient mask the keys gets only temporarily assigned...few pictures later they are not there anymore.
Really annoying problem, especially considering hotkeys was one of the key points for me to switch to Capture One Pro.0 -
Is there a pattern to the definitions that go missing?
For example you specifically mention the Erase Mask which comes with a default hot key (E) for the erase brush.
Are you changing E to something else?
Also, is the brush large enough, when selected, to be visible at the zoom level you are using? That may sound like a stupid question but it very easy to forget that the size is set and fixed relative to the zoom level.
I cannot recall ever having any problems with E (Erase) or B (Draw but I think of it as Burn) and recently got around to adding G (Gradient) to my personalised Short Cut command set (which was originally created some version ago) and have had no problems with that either. Of course these are the defaults as delivered so one would not expect them to fail. All this in V9.
Some time later ........
Having just written that as I was doing some testing my G for Gradient definition suddenly disappeared.
I could re-instate it but it would soon disappear again.
The Definition file looked OK visually except that for the Gradient line (and in everything I tried ONLY the Gradient line) the setting did not "stick". Even adding it the the file manually did not work. If I then ran the report that Summarizes the short cuts the setting disappeared.
Very strange.
In the end I created a new custom shortcuts file from the Original Default and modified that and so far all seems well despite being created in a later version it still works in V9.
I suspect an invisible corruption of the definition file but have no explanation as to why that should happen.
Is now and V10 of C1 the first time you have looked at Capture One or have you considered and installed earlier version on trials?
I would suggest trying a new Custom Shortcut definition creation starting from the original default (Maybe print out the Summary for the existing one first?) and working with that to see of it resolves the situation. It seems to be working for me.
FWIW this is the first time I have seen any problems like this mentioned on the forums far as I can recall so it seems not to be generic problem but it would be good to uncover the cause if possible. I only had problems with the Gradient selection setting as far as I could discover.
I did note that although some keys and combinations prompt warnings when duplicate use is attempted that was not always the case when I was testing. I'm not sure if that simply resulted from whatever problem caused the issue in the first place.
Secondly one may need to be careful to avoid potential conflicts with default Windows fast access keys to things like drop down menus.
Let's see if you get the same result from setting up a new file.

Thanks for your testing Grant.
This is the first time I install Capture One.
Yes, the brush is the right size and it and the eraser are linked in size.
I had changed the E key to something else, then switched back to the eraser, but now it doesn't stick.
Same for gradient and for other things as well.
The straighten tool does the same.
I did make a new description file, although I duplicated the one I made.
I'll try to make one copy of the default settings and start from scratch. Annoying, since I have added a lot of shortcuts, but worth a try.
I understand the Windows conflicts issues but is not the case for the current problem.
I'll proceed with a new file and see if that fixes the problems.
Thanks,

Waste of time, unfortunately.
It didn't work.
One thing to mention is that when I edit the keyboard shortcuts the eraser, for example, is by default "E", but when I try to assign something to "SHIFT + E", it tells me that the eraser tool is using it, but there is no trace of that anywhere, so something is going on there.
At this point, I guess the cursor tool don't like to have a different assignment since it seems they are the ones that get lost after a while.
So far the eraser, the gradient tool, to rotate or straighten tool, they all go missing after a few minutes working in the software.
I'll make a new file and avoid changing the cursor tools I guess.

When you created the new definition did you use a new name or re-use the old one?
My new file with a new name works as far as I can tell so far.
My attempts to do anything with the old file name may have been compromised - I did not pursue it as I wanted a separate identity for the new file anyway rather than overwrite the old file.
And I had no problems that I am aware of up to the point of experimentation based on your description so I suspect that the problem is related to a system glitch that may be induced by some other event than the basic concept of editing what is just an xml file.
It's probably worth raising a Support Case at this point is you have no already done so.

Thanks, Grant,
I added a support case, didn't hear back yet.
In any way it seems that avoiding changing the keyboard shortcuts for the toolbar works.
Anything that is not related to the toolbar works fine, problems happen when I reassign some of the shortcuts for the toolbar.
It seems that it uses SHIFT+"key" combination to iterate through the tools, so when you re-assign the tool key something just doesn't work anymore.
I did create a new file, I understand how file tables work.
It works fine now, it seems, all the keys are working and I just assigned different hotkeys for some of the commands.
I am loving Capture One, had to go through 3000 images this weekend and it has been much faster than with Lightroom.
Thanks,

I had this problem as I was setting them up, but persevered and just kept setting them back. Now I have things set, it is OK, even for the toolbar and the odd other change I have made hasn't caused any problems. Must be a conflict somewhere. 0 -

I suspect it to be a cache or temporary file problem - but it would be good to know what Support come up with.
