How to correct lenses that are not supported?
I was looking at C1P supported lens list and wow, was I disappointed. They don't support the Sigma 50mm Art, the popular Nikon 35mm f/1.8G, Zero Tamron, and many other lenses. I have been happy with my C1 otherwise, but just noticed its limited lens support when looking to expand my lens collection. What can you do in lens correction if the lens is not supported?
Regarding CA correction, I know that C1 can analyze CA on a per image basis, can you still do that on images shot with a lens that's not supported? What about the 'purple fringing' correction slider?
According to this article , you can user 'manufacture profile' for lens correction, or you can create you own lens profile. How does that work? And I suppose camera in-body lens correction will not be carried to C1 in RAW, correct? Thank you.

CO can read the manufacturer from some cameras. Basically, if the Lens Tab says Manufacturer Profile, it is the profile the lens sends to the camera.
However, we still try to get the lenses in-house to develop our own profiles, as many times they are better than the manufacturer profiles.0 -
Thank you for the quick response. The lenses I mentioned have been out for a couple of years and are very popular, thus the question. But I'll keep that in mind if I need a specific model to be profiled. 0 -
The Lens Correction tools allows you to make presets. This way can save your own lens corrections.

Just wondering, in the case of 3rd party lenses available for different mounts, would there exist a relevant amount of changes in their profiling? In other words do such lenses have different optical formula / characteristics for different mounts?
If not, wouldn't it be interesting to add all the already profiled 3rd party lenses to the list of supported / corrected lenses for the other mounts?0 -
I often use a Sigma 15mm FE on 1.6 crop camera. For this lens I assume I always need to use external 3rd party app to defish (I use PT Lens which is excellent for this)
But is external correction only option or can CO do generic FE correction?0 -

First, I think you can use the lens profile of a supported 3rd party lens (Sigma, Tamron, ...) even when supported for a different camera (Canon, Nikon, ...). It is a close as you can get.
The reason it is not automatically selected or listed for all cameras is most likely some kind of accuracy. Mixing this without showing on which camera it was profiled is somehow degrading the accuracy of the profile database. It is the user to decide.
That said I think that Phase One would be happy to profile each lens for multiple cameras but is limited to what is provided.0 -
As I noted above I use a Sigma 15mm Fisheye lens often. There is no profile for any manufacturer of a fisheye.
However it seems the generic barrel distortion correction should work, however it is limited to 120%.
That is not enough to correct the extreme barrel distortion of a fisheye. I've compared using 3rd party SW to using CO Generic profile at 120% and it is not quite enough. If it went to 150% or perhaps 180% it would be.
Before I open a support case with this suggestion to increase the range of lens correction up to 180% can anyone offer any alternatives?0 -
Unfortunately no, using fisheye lenses often employs a specific technique, so it is not just a typical barrel distortion, so I suggest to process image as regular file and then use thirparty image processing filters specificaly designed to work with fisheye lenses 0
