MP not indexing from DVD
MacBookPro, maverick, 10.9.5, DVDs burned Mac external disc writer/reader
Media Pro seems to not like to index folders from DVDs.
i am a professional photographer. archive my images on DVDs. and occasionally on external HDs.
the folders in my main catalogue file are created by date. when i am finished with a days shoot, i ingest the card with Photo Mechanic onto my main HD.
after editing which images i want to save, i burn a DVD labeled with the shooting date and brief description i.e. 11222014_LA DISCO and delete the images from my hard drive.
when needed i do a search in MP for a file name let's say. "disco" or description
all of the files that have "disco" pop up. MP tells me the name of the DVDs where they are located. I find the DVDs and voila, images.
BUT, MP will not work reading those DVDs any longer.
as a test i dragged the same folder from my main hard drive to see how long it took to write the catalogue for that date. it was almost instant.
so i copied those same files to a LaCie external hard drive. then pulled that specific folder into Media Pr.
catalogued fairly quickly.
so i am stuck. i need MP to read the files i just burned. This has been an on and off problem and i never know when MP will actually work or not.
i have created a work around solution. load the photo files onto an external drive, drag THAT folder onto MP, then put a description that says "DVDs burned"
that's a pain in the neck and i can't always be buying external drives because i can't figure out how to make MP read my DVDS.
oh, it WILL work if i pull a file onto a catalogue one at a time or even 2 at a time, but it has to think about that for a while.
so maybe a setting i have wrong? i don't have all day to pull in one photo at a time when i have a 6-month back log of folders.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not able to test it because i don't use MP anymore but it should work!
Not with individual files but with folders (and even with complete drives when i remember right)
You can folow the status of the processing by hitting the + before you start:

i can see the status of the process because thumbnails appear.
tonight it i couldn't even get one image to load from the main hard drive. i am SO tired of this software. it's time to change.0 -
now i need to find a cataloguing system that can import all my media one files. suggestions anyone? i have hundreds of discs archived, catalogued with captions, locations. can't start that process over. 0
