Capture One 6.3.3 - Slow loading images
Is there any possible way to load a few thousand images, pack as eip, then process using a pre-defined setting byassing the Capture one interface? If I try and load a few thousand images at a time it hangs (building thumbnails - I think) and then when I do a select all (command + a) it selects all the images, then begins counting down, then I have to wait, then try to select all again, then sometimes it will work, but most often we have to do a select all 3 or four times before we can process.
Is there an option to disable the building of thumbnails?
Is there an option to process using a hotfolder or another type of automation?
Hugely frustrated with this software right now. Maybe downgrading to a different version might help? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem with 6.3.3 just loading a few raw images at startup.
My system details are:
iMac 27†2.8GHz Intel i5 Quad Core (June2010)
12GB Memory
1TB Hard Drive
Mac OS X 10.7.3 (Lion)0 -
Hi guys,
I am currently running C1 on a 15" mac book pro ( Lion ), 8gb, quad i7 with the 128gb ssd when travelling, when at home I run C1 on a W7 64 8gb amd hex core, lots of high speed disk.
The current version of C1 does all of what you describe on both systems. Basically you can't change that, not only is it building jpegs (thumbnails) it is also creating the workspace/registering the photo.
I suspect you are being a bit impatient.
Now you haven't specified which camera/camera system you are using so people can get an idea of how mach data you are processing.
My 10D, doesn't have this problem, but when I started using the 40D I noticed it and the 7D.
Also the 10D didn't usually have many files on a card where as the 7D has around 400 raw.
My experience with other leading brands of software will give you the same slow load/build of pre-images.
I prefer C1 it is way simpler to use eg load and export photos to/from.
You could try using the loader software, but as soon as you go to export the photos in EIP format you will need to wait while C1 processes the images.

Thanks Ian for your reply.
I agree with you I am impatient, C1 is simpler to use and to export photo's to and from.
Currently I also use Lightroom 3, ACDSee Pro 5 and Corel Aftershot Pro, these all load much quicker than C1.
I have a D200 and D700, each having 200 raw images on each card and they both take the same time to load once I have transfered the images onto my hard drive.
Don't get me wrong, C1 is still the best program to use, I just don't know why it takes so long to load compared to other programs.
I have emailed support and asked for their advice.

When I use C1 in a tethered workflow, it's great. I'm not affected by the interface speed during captures with my Canon 5D2. But if I shoot to CF card and download, C1 can be slow. Trying to browse through 2000+ images after a big shoot can also be really slow, as in click on a thumbnail preview, wait about 10 seconds for the spinning beach ball, see the main image load, then wait another 7-10 seconds for the main image to render to be sharp. The worst part is trying to go through an archived shoot that is saved on a network server: easily 15-20 seconds for the C1 interface to catch up to each click. It is an absolute pain.
I'm using an iMac i7 2.8 quad core with 16gb of RAM and 256gb SSD as the main drive with about 160gb free space. Should definitely not be slow. As a point of comparison, Lightroom 3 & 4 are pretty darn fast on this machine. Maybe 2-3 second delays at most, but that's when I'm browsing network drives.0 -

So the eip's have the settings applied, you just need to select all and hit process? Are the files in multiple folders? You may be able to do it.0
