EOS 5D , C1 Tethered shooting problem
EOS 5 D, C1 3.7.3. Win XP serv. pack 2.
When i shoot RAW tethered to a notebook, the C1 software suddenly changes my white balance (set on camera to auto) to extreme green.
When the RAW data loads into C1, the thumbnail looks ok for a fraction of a second then changes to green, Tint slider way over on the left side.
The same shoot using canons own remote capture software ..no problem !
When i save the RAW data to disk then open up C1 ......suddenly its ok...
I have tried changing the white balance on the camere to Tungsten and Strip light, but the problem still remains.
Has anyone got any ideas ?
is it a bug? or is it me ?
Thanx in advance

Banfield,
I was hoping another 5D shooter would weigh-in here... so I will offer my 2cents.
First of all I feel the Auto WB is not always the best choice. With Auto the WB is adjusted for every shot and a wide range of Kelvin can result between 3.000 to 7,000K .
By choosing a set WB i.e. flash, sunny, fluorescent you will get a consistent value for WB. With images shot consistently, it is quite easy to fine tune WB in Capture One.
When shooting tethered, it is best to make first capture a true gray card or Macbeth chart. From this image you can set WB with an eyedropper clik and then at the WB tab, clik the icon Set as capture white balance
Now the WB setting will be applied to each image as they arrive into the Session.

Thanx for the reply, but i still have the same problem.
I shall try your suggestion of setting the WB in C1using a grey card.
I tried adjusting the WB on camera to Tungsten and Floresant (it was an indoor shoot) but to no avail.
i also tried with and without a flash (canon EX 580) very stable WB feature which compensates for weakening Batteries (they were new) this too did not make any difference to the green thumbnail & displayed shot.
it is strange, . . . when the thumbnail loads into C1 (tethered) for a fraction of a second it looks normal (correct color temp) and then .....everything goes green. this is the part i dont understand.
it works when i load the saved Raw file from CF or hard disk after the shoot .
it seems to me to be a support problem between C1 tethered and Canons EOS 5D.......any ideas?
Q.Why does it work with canons (Remote capture) software and not C1 ?
i would like to keep my whole workflow in C1.
as up to now the software has served me well.
unfortunatley i shall have to continue to shoot tethered with the Canon software until this problem is resolved.
please help !!!0 -
Thank you for your good advice,
I tried your suggestion of setting the WB in C1 , and then loading in the saved WB setting for the capture.
It worked a treat 😄
my problem is solved thanx to your help.
now i can shoot tethered ,preview, and develope my shots all in C1.
(the software i am most happiest with)
bye 4 now
keep up the good work0
