Please crate a support case and we'll have a look.
This should not occur in Express, only in Pro when using the Session workflow.

I have created a support case as requested.

Response to support case is that this is a known issue and will be reviewed for later issues - so assume this is the current expected behavior of CO Express. However, no response on why initially the /Settings70 subfolder and included .icm files were not created and then suddenly were.

Are you using a custom ICM profile?

Yes ...on and off... for example the .icm supplied by Phase One in response to one of my support cases. But I had been using it (and other Fuji X-E1 .icc profiles from the DP Review website) for a while on a number of photos without a /Settings70 subfolder ever being created. Then suddenly /Settings70 subfolder started appearing regardless of what profile I used except for the 'Fuji X-E1 Generic V2' profile.

The subfolders are annoying because they clutter up my hard drive and have no purpose. I can delete them without any side-effects but that is just one more action I do not want to have to keep performing whenever I process RAW files.

I don't understand why they suddenly started appearing - and whether there is any setting/configuration I can change to stop them being created..

The subfolders are annoying and should not occur.
However, in some instances, where there is custom data (like an ICC Profile), the software will save it among the files it references for future use. Kind of a "better safe than sorry" situation.
However, as these are your Processed files, it shouldn't show up there unless they too are being imported and the custom ICC profile applied.
    We're looking into it.

Found a solution (for right or wrong!).

    (a) If new profile files are installed in /Users/name/AppData/Local/CaptureOne/Color Profiles then CO creates the /Settings70 subfolder and .icm files whenever one of those profiles are used.

    (b) If new profile files are installed in /Program Files/Phase One/Capture One 7/Color Profiles/DSLR the /Settings70 subfolder and.icm files are not created.

When I initially installed XE1 profiles from a DP Review thread I copied them into the (b) directory as stated in the thread.
When I received a Support Case profile from yourselves I was not sure how to install it so Googled that profiles should be installed in the (a) directory. So at that time I also moved the DP Review profiles from the (a) to (b) directory. That must have been when I I suddenly started seeing the /Settings70 subfolder.

I have now moved all profiles into the (a) directory and no longer get any /Settings70 subfolders created. CO EXpress still works as before.

    I hope this helps.
