CaptureOne crashes when switching between smart albums.
Hello, forum!
I wonder if you've encountered this behaviour: My CaptureOne 12 (Windows 10) crashes 100% of the time while I switch through smart albums. Here are my repro steps:
Start a new catalog. Create a new project and name it TestProject. Inside, add one album (TestAlbum) and two smart albums (Smart1, Smart2). Configure Smart1 to show photographs with a rating of 1 star, and Smart2 to show photographs with a rating of 2 stars.
Import 1500 photographs and drop them into TestAlbum. Grab big chunks and set them to 1 or 2 stars so that the two smart albums have about 400 images each.
Switch between the two smart albums by clicking on either of them. The crash should happen after a small number of switches. For me, the average is three or four, but sometimes even one switch will crash the program. Note that this crash doesn't happen if you switch through albums.
I wonder if some thread is processing smart album requirements and switching to another smart album causes some sort of memory exception. Going through the crash log I see a lot of OpenCL exceptions. However, I tried this same procedure with hardware acceleration disabled, and my CO still crashes immediately ☹️

I have not seen that. Over the weekend I was switching between three smart albums - based on year. I must have switched half a dozen times and changed additional filtering even more. No crash.
Granted not the exact scenario you listed but it is similar in some ways. Sound like a good case to open with support thought.0 -
Thanks for the response! Yep, working it out with them. Will post any findings here. 😊 0 -
Alright. We solved the issue with help from customer support. The problem was some corrupt data in the imageCore folder. If you run into the situation described in the thread, try deleting the ImageCore cache folder at %programdata%/Phase One/Capture One, the folder will be restored next time you start the application.
There will be a small delay the first time you switch between smart albums, and then everything should run smoothly.0
