    Hi Ian,
Although I am not sure I understand your post thanks for posting anyway.

Regarding the term "Variants", my 2 cts: Variant is Capture One 4 & 5 talk for an image plus its adjustments. Each image you shot is a variant once opened in CO4/5. Because you can create multiple virtual copies or clones from a single image - each with its own adjustments - a term was needed to distinct the image file and its multiple representations. Hence: Variants.
When selecting multiple images (whether different files and or clones) CO 4 & 5 allow you to work on all selected or only one, the primary variant.

    Hi Paul,
I don't post often. The main point of my post was that variant is not referred to anywhere in the description of the batch process.
The batch process assumes you have changed the state of the variant icon which in my case is displayed by the icon turning orange. There is no explanation about how this function enables you to do batch processing, it is only when a user reads the forum do you learn that variant and batch are tied. The manual needs to be a bit more explicit on the changing states to enable batch printing.

Now if my memory servers me correctly there was a different way of getting files into batch. I don't normally use batch, but individual process as a I go.
