win XP, vfx, d3d9,
First, great news on this purchase. I'm a bit late to the welcome gang, but I've just found out. I really look forward to news of developments, this unique and excellent product has languished FAR too long...
Second, though I know the focus is on how photographers will use the app I'd like to make mention of my use which is for asset management for visual effect media, images mostly. Probably this isn't all that different from how most photographers would use the app but I just thought I'd make a mention. I work with Industrial Light & Magic as a matte painter and I rely heavily on this app, have since the iViewMedia days, for cataloging and searching the vast amounts of reference and resource images I have to keep track of. I haven't found an equivalent app for speed, features and ease of use though I tried while it sat practically dead the past couple of years.
Third, though my preference for operating system at home is OSX, at work I'm currently locked into WIN XP - which'll most likely change in the coming months to WIN7, but here I am. One major issue we've had to overcome in MS Expressions is a conflict with the d3d9.dll extensions which have to be disabled in order for the app to run on our system. Perhaps its something specific with the way our systems are set up, I don't know but I do trust our tech folks completely, and MS Expression will not start when the d3d9.dll extensions are active in the system, and a conflict arises in that several of the other apps I require, 3d software, require this extension.
Its good to feel excited about the future of this app again, best regards,
Kent M
