Update from 3.5 - how to restore settings?
Hello, I want to update from 3.5 LE to 3.7.3 PRO.
While doing that I find that my settings from developped images, which are still stored in the 3.5 version, do not appear in 3.7.3.
I know that copying c1.p and c1.w files should fix this. But such files did not exist in 3.5? Rather they are called preview and work files. I copied these, but this obviously does not help.
Does anyone know how to resolve this?
Thanks,
Markus

Markus,
Since 3.5 is long gone from my machines, you will have to test and see what works. Ignore the Preview files, these will be rebuilt. The image adjustment data is contained in the Work and .C1w files.
These image settings will be transferred and updated 1 of 2 ways...
1> in 3.5 do a Workflow > Selected Capture Settings > Save to Archive and save the files along with your RAWs. In version 3.7 you will go same pathway and this time Restore from Archive
Image adjustment data should get written into new .C1w files.
2> copy and place these Work Files into the Preview Cache location of version 3.7 and these data should be interpreted and Preview displays the image adjustments.
Let us know how this goes for you.
Thanks for Testing 😄

Hello Keith,
I'll try this, but aaargggh: This means that I have to ***manually *** select all my thousand of pictures and send them through this procedure??? Is there a way to store all of my settings of all pictures at once?
Thanks again,

Markus,
Which of the above methods worked?
If it is 2> then it is a matter of placing all the Work files from 3.5 into the Preview cache of 3.7
Otherwise I suppose the decision of what is less painful, copying over/restoring Work file image adjustment data, or making the image adjustments over again upon new .C1w files.

Hi.
i tried both ways - with no succes at all. The underlying issue seems to be that C1 Pro in the new version does not understand the old works-files at all. So, no internal conversion from .work to the .c1w format seems to work. Do you have any solution to this issue? How could users update when the conversion from .work to .c1w was made?
Thanks for your support,

Markus,
Well, we're fairly confident this does work so something is amiss here.
Please create a Support Case and include 2 of your RAW files and the .work files that go with them.

For the benefit of anyone landing here who is also trying to import older .work files into a recent version of Capture One for Windows (which uses .c1w files)...
I can confirm that Keith's method 1 (using Restore from Archive) will import .work files created by C1 in mid 2004 (I think it was v3.5 but I don't have that recorded) into C1 v3.7.4. C1 will save the imported settings as new .c1w files.0 -
HI-
Re: old. work files
the tip is -Save to archive it will not work if you just saved in your old program.
When you have your "saved for archive" .work files you must place them in the cache of the new version of software. Program files/Phase One/ Capture One Pro/ cache. When you select the thumbnails , you then restore from archive, the box comes up and browse to that cache folder and it will re-create the edits. save accordingly.
Kind regards-
JRA
