Could you provide a link to the RAW file and I will a test as well, it is always easier if we look at the same thing.

I know the Swedish translation is.. well lets just say funny, it is fixed in 3.7.1

    The DPP shows more detail

It is virtually impossible to do apples to apples comparisons by having sharpening turned off in different raw processors. There is no way of knowing if the demosaicing is adding sharpening behind the scenes.

The best way to compare is to use each product to make the best possible file you can, and disregard the numerical value of any settings as these numbers are not able to be compared to eachother.

I find that my Canon 1Ds always needs a bit of "capture sharpening" to avoid a mushy look. I use 75 for amount, and 3 as threshold. Noise suppression is one in from left, and banding supression is full left. If I need more sharpness, I may go up to 100 or 125, but if my focus preview window inducates I have introduced unwanted haloing, I back it off a bit. If after all this, I still need a tad more, I set the noise supression to full left.

jjlphoto, I agree in general that you should try to find the software's best possible settings and compare it to another software with it's best settings.

But when you take away all filters that smoothens an image (anti-noise, anti-banding) the result should be an image of as much details as possible. If no detail is to be seen - no detail is possible to sharpen up.

But regarding my test and the comparision it seems I missed to turn of the second (new since 3.7 i think) anti-noise filter called \"color noise suppression\". When I do that I can see the same details as in DPP.

Ulf is looking at my RAW-file and I just want him to confirm to me that this is right and I will probably post a new image comparing (1) DPP, (2) CO 3.7 with no color noise suppression and (3) CO 3.7 with color noise suppression set to \"pre 3.7\".

I don't know yet if the default setting in 3.7 smoothens out the image more than the previous versions, but if so I think its important to inform people about that.

    Thanks for your reply.

    Regards,
    Petter
