    Hi All,
I am a current Lightroom user. Considering a switch to Capture One.
I also shoot Sony A99 cameras. So noticing the different "Capture One (for Sony)" version. What is the differences between the "Capture One" main version of 9.2 and "Capture One for Sony" version?
Are they actually Identical softwares, except that one is only for Sony cameras? And all other cameras use the original C1? And if so, why in the world would this be the case? A little unnerving that there is a separate version for the Sony line, versus the C1 main version.
Any feedback is appreciated. Fed up with the Adobe "Subscription-only" mentality. Really would like to move on. Just need to know what I'm getting into with Capture One's way of thinking.

    Thanks.

Identical, just that one support only Sony cameras.

Fyi: You can buy LR outright unless you also want Photoshop CC. I'm on CS6 so... 😉

The "Pro for Sony" version can only process Sony RAW files, not RAW files from other manufacturers. That's the only difference between the two "Pro" licenses. The free "Express for Sony" version, on the other hand, lacks a few functionalities (such as local adjustments).

    That's exactly it.

Because Sony and Phase One have a commercial partnership going.

A little unnerving that there is a separate version for the Sony line, versus the C1 main version.

As you said above, they're not separate versions, they're identical software: what you're downloading is always the same installer file, only the license changes (see the Capture One 9 > License menu item).

    Hey Guys,
Thanks for the quick and detailed replies. After I posted it, I got to wondering that very thing about a possible partnership. I know Phase One is using Sony sensors, so that was a clue.
I have the A99 and it didn't come with a "free" Capture One software, it came with Sony's own older Image Viewer (horribly sloooow). So anyways, I'll go ahead and download the "Pro" trial".
    Thanks again.
