Lens correction only in the Pro version?
I'm currently using of CO 4.1 and I was very happy to hear that CO 5.0 includes lens correction. It was actually the only thing that would justify the upgrade for me.
However, it is only available in the Pro version and as a home user (which dos not generate revenue from using the software) I could never justify spending $400 on photo conversion software.
The answer for me is simple: "don't upgrade". But does it really make sense from a marketing point of view to not offer lens correction in the regular version? After all the consumer cameras have most distortion and this makes it an incomplete product for home users. Let's not forget that all cameras come with some kind of raw conversion software and CaptureOne needs some significant differentiating factors to justify the extra cost.

Although I can't discuss Phase One's marketing decisions, I can declare that - although in Pro - lens correction was available before CO5 (read CO4 Pro). Just for the record.
Besides that, to get the max. out of your buck, I would update for free to the latest CO4, which is 4.8.3.0 -
4.1.2 is the latest I can upgrade with my license ...
Sorry, I didn't know lens correction it's available from version 4 (I'm just a casual user 😊. But the point is the same. I'm kind of bummed out that now I might need to research again all available raw conversion utilities. Lens distortion is pretty significant in pocket-size RAW cameras like the Canon S90, and distortion correction pretty much becomes a must-have.0 -

New to me, since licenses are bound to major releases (like 3, 4 or 5), not to point releases like 4.1 versus 4.8. I don't know if you mind - after all it was not your topic - but on what knowledge or experience is your statement based (I might be overlooking the obvious)?0 -
Maybe that's how it works now ...
I originally bought 3.5 and the license worked all the way up to 4.1.2. "License Information" says "0 free upgrades left" now. I installed this 4.1.2 recently (this spring) because that's what my online account said to do.0 -
As far as a DSLR user is concerned, the lens correction feature in Pro version is too primitive by current standard.
Lens correction presets are available almost exclusive to Medium Format lenses. For DSLR users, we only have some sliders controlling the simple barrel/pincushion to play around. Unless you are a professional with all the test charts, correction is made as good as the picture looks to your eyes.
I really envy what the other competitor are offering. Their software includes a long list of supported lenses. They provide a free tool to make your correction profiles if your lenses are not covered yet and they have a user community/forum to share. I would say even the freeware Rawtherapee has better lens correction support than C1 Pro.

Yes, 0 free upgrades, but that does not affect the updates. Common confusion. You apparently haven't tried it. Up to you.0 -
I see. I might have tried the latest 4.x first but I don't really remember. I'll try your suggestion as soon as I feel in the mood of messing with the computer... 0 -
You were right, I can update to 4.8.3 without problems. 0 -
