    Please start with a current version;

Thank you, Drew. The latest version did the same exact thing, so I went one iteration back. Will reinstall the latest but I expect the same behavior. Any other thoughts?

You don't do screen-sharing tech support, do you by any chance?

Same behavior. It opens, a couple of windows appear for sessions, which is odd, since only one should open, then it crashes.

I had the same problem in 7.1

After filing a support case tech supports claims it's a 10.6.8 Mac OS problem and suggested I update to 10.7. or 10.8

I updated to 10.8.2 and 7.1 has stopped crashing on startup

That all depends. We can if necessary but you'll need to create a support case first and after we gather information we can determine if it's the best option to help you out.

I have seen a few instances of Macs with CO7 crashing on start up. They were all instantly cured after repairing permissions with Disk Utility.

DALE -- you seem to be the man with the answer, I upgraded to the latest mountain lion or whatever it's called -- 10.8.3 -- and it opened.

Paul -- repaired permissions, made no diff.

Drew -- thank you, but the answer seems to have been an upgrade -- or maybe it was through the upgrade that the offending files were reset. Who knows.

    Glad to hear that worked!

BTW the problem session that kept crashing in 10.6.8 contained Canon 5D Mark III files.

Unfortunately I have a crash problem as well with the first catalog I was using, right in the middle of a deadline of course. I was lucky enough to have exported three of the finished photos but had to resort to importing my files from the cf card again, into a session hoping this wouldn't give me the same troubles. I haven't been able to open up my catalog yet (it just hangs and shows me that wretched beachball) so I can't get to those previous files I worked on.. I'm using:
    Capture One v.7.1
    Mac OS 10.8.3
I tried repairing permissions with disk utility, to no avail. Will there be some kind of fix that allows me to open up that catalog again sometime soon?
Edit: using 5D mark II files. Not sure if that is relevant but as people here are mentioning mark III files, who knows..

    You could try:
File menu > Verify Catalog or Session command.

I tried this but alas. No errors, but when I click 'open' it just freezes again. I have to force quit the application. I don't know what the right way is to add an image here, but if you're interested I did make a screenshot of the verification dialog. You can see that in my dropbox; (I hope that works)
