Pixel Shift support for Sony
Hi,
has anyone found a solution to use pixel shift files from a Sony a7r III other than the rather slow(to put it very, very mildly) Sony Edit software? I was desperately hoping for the solution in Capture One 12, but unfortunately my dreams did not come true.
The demand doesn't seem to be big enough that they don`t add that. That's a huge pity, because that feature is completely underestimated.
Any tips anyone?

You might want to take a look at and try "SonyPixelShift2DNG". It's from the same folks that do FastRawViewer and RawDigger.

I understand your point and as a A7R III user I requested this as well. Point is that an ARQ file from Sony Edit does not look better then a single ARW shot converted in Capture One.
Off topic (a bit): the Mac version of Sony Edit did not render ARQ files from a pixel shift sequence on my Mac (no problem with Windows). Don't you have this issue?0 -

Hi Paul,
with my system MacOS 10.12.6 and Edit Version 1.3.01.09120 there is no problem creating ARQ files.
But the software is just terrible and useless for a professional workflow.
The quality of the pixel shift files with a prime lens(e.g. Sony G 90 macro) is absolutely stunning, especially for very large prints.
Try increasing the output size by 50% (Sony a7r III: 7956 x 11928 Px, very nice!) or go for the maximum 15000 Px width(not quite as good).
The output quality kills the quality of some previous phase one backs. That might be one of the reasons why they don't implement that feature in C1. But that fear is not justified, because the Sony comes with many flaws(e.g. 1/13 flash sync speed, NO movement) and of course doesn't´t look as professional to the client.

Hi Paul,
you´re welcome.
And if you have not updated the camera firmware yet, here a little tip what they completely left out in the instruction manual and I didn't find for two hours!:
When opening the "Update_ILCE7RM3V200.dmg", "UpdateSettingTool" is there, but the actual "SystemSoftwareUpdater" is hidden in the "Resources" folder.
Very unusual for Mac users.
I looked for 100 other potential problem sources before I found the simple reason for my headaches. 😄
A company like Sony should invest more effort in a short and clear step by step instruction manual for different systems.0 -
Yes, thanks. I found that info for the firmware update as well. Not done very nice from Sony's side, indeed. 0
