C1 works differently to Aperture. In Aperture you import from physical folder on disk to a DAM structure consisting of projects, albums, smart albums etc. Regardless if referenced or managed, you never see the actual disk folders. In C1 you import physical folders on the disk, a bit like Lightroom works. You can then create Aperture like DAM structure in the User area by dragging images from Folder area into projects or albums or by creating smart albums. Again, more like Lightroom works, but there is more depth to it. In addition there is no round tripping to Photoshop or plugins as they are not supported, so any externally created TIFs need to be re-imported to the Folder area and then dragged to the User area. You can partially automate this by requesting an import to go to the currently selected album as well. Smart albums will not help here (unlike in Aperture) because they only work on images already in the project. It can be managed with care, but don't hope to achieve the elegance and efficiency of Aperture DAM. Maybe in the future with further integration of MediaPro? And I have a feeling that once that integration is complete, MediaPro will follow Aperture into legacy software...
