Noise reduction for CAnon 5d Mark II and Capture Onne Rel. 5
with high iso pictures, i do get some automatically set !!! for the noise reduction wich turns the pictures into a very bad, plastic looking 'thing'.
Testing wit different other RAW converters (Lighroom, even Photoshop and DXO) pictures look ok... so it is not the Rawfile or the camera causing the prob.
... i like the workflow of C1 so much and i want to use it for High ISO 3200/6400 and up. what can be done?
Is there a way that the automated Noise reduction can be tamed?
Maybe PhaseOne could add a parameter so the noise diameters can be defined (similar to what tools offer for sharpening)?
for low iso, i am convine to work with the most practical and great working tool
thanks for help

C1 should get (just wait a little bit) something like some other raw converters where they pulverize the high ISO/big grain noise by introducing a fine grain (luminance noise) to make it a visually better looking...0 -
Arthur,
simply change the noise sliders to a position you'd prefer as a starting point and save those settings as the new default - and you can save various sharpening/Luma/Chroma settings as named presets for particular ISOs, for example.
The default noise settings in C1 probably are a bit aggressive, but it's really easy to sort them out to your own satisfaction.
The noise tools in C1 are the best of any converter I've tried (and I've tried loads of converters) which is one of the main benefits of C1 in my view.0 -
Keith-
thanks a lot for your suggestion. I agree C1 is the most practical and maybe the best raw converter. the workflow is unbelivalbe easyer the with anything i tried. i am not sure if i got it correct ' save those settings' . I do not have the Pro version. does the Pro verison really has a feature of saving settings for different ISO or B/W etc? If so i will get it tonight. Thaks again for the time you spent to help.
kind regards

Both the CO5 (regular) and Pro enable you to create your own default for sharpening AND create numerous presets for sharpening and noise reduction.
To discover that magic, go to the tool (ok, you're already there I see); in the title bar of the tool find the small tiny triangular symbol at the right, click on it (taddaaaah)... and now you are changed into a frog (no sorry, that's a Pro feature only) but you can still read this forum. (most of the time I am more serious and on topic).
Have fun.
Note: a new sharpening default is not backwards applied to previously opened images.0 -
Paul beat me to it, Arthur.
Finding how to change and save defaults is a bit cryptic, but Paul's advice gets you there - and as he says, it works the same for the standard and Pro versions.
Oh - and the same approach works on most of the other settings in Cap One too.0 -
thanxs a lot to both of you. it works great. and it is of great help. so again, thanxs a lot for your help
