PETITION: PhaseONE CaptureONE PRO for Full Support of DNG
Hi everyone!
I recently started a petition asking PhaseONE CaptureONE PRO to fully support the DNG (digital negative) file format in their flagship RAW software converter called CaptureONE PRO (C1PRO).
I've briefly stated the reason(s) why and if you're a digital photographer who uses the DNG file format AND is a user of C1PRO, I urge and implore you to add your digital signature to the petition.

Thank you for your support and consideration.
With warmest sincerity,
Ron

WHY?
C1P has its own wrapper format that keeps the raw file and settings intake. For me if I see a dng file I go straight to ACR not capture. Likewise if I see a EIP I go to C1P or if I dont have it unzip the file and open it in whatever raw convertor.
I dont see the advantage of dng.0 -
Ronald,
What your requesting, from a user standpoint, seems quite straight forward. However from a software standpoint it is far from it.
As we, Phase One, have already done the work to support files like Canon CR2's and Nikon NEF's (each individually given attention to build custom support) it seems redundant to then ALSO build support for the same files but with the Adobe DNG "twist". Each one of these DNG file types would need to have support built for it once more (ex. CR2+DNG, NEF+DNG, etc) to provide the "full" support.
There are many cameras out there that have yet to have support in Capture One. Many of these are currently our priority for file support within Capture One as appose to building another type of support for cameras we have already taken to time to support.
I appreciate what you are requesting and it would wonderful if it were an easy implementation. Perhaps in the future we will have a solution that can work completely but at present, the basic DNG support for Adobe DNG is the best we can do as it supports the common information that is in all Adobe DNG files but, for the reasons listed above, has to ignore the specific information unique to each file. It is that specific information that would allow for the "full" support you are requesting in which case we would simply request you use the original RAW file in Capture One as appose to an edited RAW format.0 -
Cinema DNG would be great to have greater support for! 😄 0 -
NO DNG support required unless it is a camera manufacturer RAW format.
I dont want anything to do with Adobe's rubbish DNG 'standard'. It is a folly in the truest sense of the word!.0 -

as I agree with you, if the original raw file is supported (i.e. nef or cr2), then no DNG should be necessary.
I wish C1 does support also Pentax 645D PEF files, or full DNG… For now, I have to use LR4 mainly for that reason. : ( because I know that C1 would bring a much better rendering… too bad.
But maybe this is not possible as Phase could consider the Pentax as a competitor?
I would understand this, but then say it! I raised a support case in January (#99208) with the answer:Hi - thanks for writing.
Based on your request we will add your request to our feature request list. Then it's our management group that will decide if the camera can be added to the list.
Thanks for using Capture One

Nicolas,
This is what I was referring to when I saidThere are many cameras out there that have yet to have support in Capture One.
As some Pentax Camera's no longer shoot PEF files but a Pentax Native DNG, we now need to look into supporting that DNG file type. But again, many are misled by the DNG tag of these files as a DNG file from a Pentax is vastly different from the DNG files that the OP is referencing in his Petition. Building file support one camera at a time is the only option in this case.0 -
Drew
this is a very good news to read that the door is not closed for supporting the Pentax 645D PEF files… one day.
Would you need so, I'll be happy to participate up to my level of knowledge…
Thanks for reading and follow-up : )
EDIT: if you send me an email or a way to PM, I'll send you some additional infos…0 -
