GPS locations
C1 shows any existing GPS location information under the info tab but I was wondering if anyone knew if there were any plans to allow users to add GPS location information to the images as one can do in Lightroom. That is, to display a map and allow users to add the GPS locations of the photos based on the map location specified.
Unless, of course, there already is a way to do this and I just don't know what it is.

At the moment there is no functionality like this. I already sent a feature request and you could do the same. 0 -
I agree this would be useful. At the moment I am trying to find a workable third party solution. 0 -

I would appreciate it if you could post anything that you find to be useful. At the moment I am "trial-ing" something called HoudahGeo which allows me to use Google Earth to store GPS locations and heights directly into the raw images, but I don't really know what else might be out there.
Thanks.0 -
Hi,
I saw HoudahGeo, but being a good Scot I am trying out a free app called GeoTag. It also requires you to install ExifTool (also free). It seems to be working OK and doesn't seem to mess with the rest of the EXIF data. Just reload/sync metadata after tagging. However, I will also give HoudahGeo a try as well.0 -

Thanks for your post.
I have been "trial-ing" HoudahGeo for the past couple of days and it seems to work properly. I load my Canon raw images into the UI and it gives me the option of using either its own built-in mapping app or using Google Earth. In either case I select an image, center the icon on the location and use its buttons to enter the GeoCoding in the image. I then export the images (only 5 at a time for the trial) and then process them through CO. It seems to work well, but I still need to trial GeoTag. Those seem to be the only ones I have found.
I am also looking for a good viewing app that will display the location of the generated jpgs. I have been using ArcPhoto+ but it has no location functionality and my wife, who uses Windows, has been using some other app which also has no location functionality. All of this work will be for nothing if I can not find a decent viewing app.0 -
@Maczero
As far as I can tell you can not use GeoTag to automatically insert gps info into the raw images using Google Earth or something like that. It almost seems as though you have to manually insert the gps data field by field. If that is correct it is nothing I can do for the hundreds of images I end up with after a trip.
So far the only option to buying a gps receiver for my Canon is to use something like HoudahGeo. If you have any different information I would be very interested in hearing about it.0 -

GeoTag seems to use Google Maps to assign data (no height data). I agree that HoudahGeo is a much more complete solution and I may need to spring for it! I have also tried Photo GEO Tagger, but that ends up corrupting RAW files somehow; so is a non-starter.0 -

I was not able to figure out any way to use Google Earth to enter location information using GEO Tagger with raw images. In fact I could not even get it to display my raw image when I selected it. Can you explain how you got it to accept the location information?0 -
HoudahGeo is an excellent piece of software that not only works just as described, but has quick and comprehensive technical support.
On a recent trip (to Scotland) I avoided a dedicated hardware device altogether by using gps4cam. It proved extremely accurate and reliable in every way.
It uses the iPhone's GPS, of course; at the end of your session (the accuracy of captures during which is configurable) you take a photo on the camera you're using of the QR code produced by gps4cam. On uploading the data to your desktop, the desktop version of the software reads the image (which you might find necessary to crop etc) and geotags your images. I confess, I was a little skeptical. But it worked very well indeed.
Good luck!0 -
Another geotagging app that I have used which is (or at least was) similar to HoudahGeo is PhotoLinker which is available in the Mac App Store:
https://itunes.apple.com/dk/app/photoli ... 1051?mt=12
I haven't checked Houdah recently, but I did a while back, and preferred PhotoLinker.
