Syncing keywords to NEF?
Is it possible to sync keywords to a NEF? It's not something I've ever tried, till now.
However, when I do Action > Sync Annotations > Export Annotations to Original Files, not only do the keywords (or any other annotations for that matter) not show up in the file, but all other IPTC metadata already embedded in the file seems to be wiped out (I use Photo Mechanic to check out what file metadata is present).
Is this just plain not possible?
I'm on a trial of the latest Windows version, on Vista 32 bit.

I used to be cautious about touching NEFs with anything other than Nikon software, and certainly never let iView MediaPro / MS Expression Media do it, but I've been using Photo Mechanic to rate NEFs for several years now (applying the ratings directly into the NEFs) without any problem. In fact, Photo Mechanic makes it all very easy to annotate NEFs, and I have come to trust it entirely.
It just so happens that I need to get some keywords already in my EM catalog into the files. I tried it on a couple of test NEFs, and syncing the keywords (in fact any metadata at all) to the NEF just wiped everything out that was already there! I trust EM so little now that I've worked out an alternative approach: export the metadata into sidecar files in the image folders, and then view the images in Photo Mechanic... PM will read the sidecars and can then transfer the metadata from the sidecar to the NEF.
Oh well.
