I was hoping to have my problem with raw files not rendering in media view solved with media pro update as phase one suggested, but no such luck. The update compounded the problem, now my tiff files will not render in full resolution, seems the same problem that affected mac users in 1.0 is now afflicting win 7 users in 1.0.1,if I reset path or rebuilt item I get a message that no importer is found for file type. The only thing that does work in 1.01 is the sort in list view,so I had to uninstall 1.0.1 and reinstall 1.0, at least I can work around the raw files not rendering in media pro by staying away from levels in C1pro,very disappointed indeed with phase one.

    I'm having issues too.

Using Phase One as the preferred engine for rendering:
I cannot see full size 16bit tiff files or PSD files. I can see the tiny embedded thumbnail that Photoshop generates if I also have the "Use embedded thumbnail" option on.
I can however see all Canon 5D MkII CR2 files.

Using Windows Imaging Component as the preferred engine for rendering (with FastPicture Viewer WIC CODEC Pack):
I can see all files at proper resolutions but I cannot see changes made to raw files by Capture One Pro.

I think a solution is for Phase One to do some kind of deal with the makers of FastPicture Viewer to get their CODECs included in Media One then allow users to choose a rendering engine for each file type.

Also Media Pro still crashes too much to be useful.

Media One, a typo obviously but I like that. I wished I would have come up with that name.

I have the same problem and have not (yet) explored if the Canon Raw thumbnail files I'm unable to view in MP have been modified in Capture One - but I suspect you are all right on the right path. Let's hope that Support provides a solution as this program is useless to me without thimbnail view. What seems strange to me is that I can still view the full image under the Media tab. So maybe just the thumbnail is corrupted during the conversion process.

    I am shooting with a Canon 60D.
I can make the thumbnails come and go, depending on the media rendering preferences.
Set the preferred engine to " windows imaging component" with rendering set to "use embedded preview".
Choose a thumbnail and under action, choose "rebuild item".
    The thumbnail disappears.
Reset the preferred engine to "Phase One", and then "rebuild"
    The thumbnail reappears.

Given the current rendering speed under the Phase One engine, which is slow as to make things like the light table useless for large number of photos in a shoot, I have a weird and complex workflow. It seems to work, but it is a pain.
I save all my new photos to a new named folder under a master 2011 photo folder.
By default, I start off with Windows rendering.
I take an overall look with Media Pro after updating the upper level master folder.
I remove all my "bad" photos" in Lightroom 3; it is quick and and I can easily examine the details with the loupe.
I add initial "stars" in LR, saving the metadata.
I move back to Capture One for editing. I monitor the used memory, quitting CO when I hit about 1.3G, or it will crash.
I send everything to back to Media Pro.
I rebuild under a Phase One Engine. I sync annotations.
I move back to a windows engine which then gives me quick viewing under "media".

I told you that t was weird - but it works without crashing.
I can run with LR, MP, and CO all open.

    Hello everybody,

It is my forst post here.
Jim, your workflow is quite "pretty". I had the same, until I decide to buy today the FastPictureViewer add-on. It is not expensive, et allows me to see canon CR2 raws and TIF in the same time with WIC engine. That's the only way for x64 Windows 7 OS. And I can work only with MP1 and CO, without Lightroom.
But the WIC engine is not nice at all, because it cut all dark grays in black, and colors are not exact at all. It is not the quality of Adobe engine, or PhaseOne engine or Icms. I found in same time that WIC (or MP1 ?) shows images sharpened, which is not nice at all, and makes images wrong.
And I have problems with color management. I work mainly with Prophoto profile, and MP1 with PhaseOne engine does not care about profiles (with 8 bits TIFs at least, for 16 bits it does not work for me too). Is there anybody seeing that ? Or is it a problem of my config ? But may be I should open a topic for that, sorry.
Sorry for my English, I am definitively French.

    Gilles

Hopefully something redeemable come of the problems that PhaseOne has had with bugs in capture one 6.0 and media pro 1.0,1.0.1 in the last 6 months, they need to rethink their policy on beta testing in a real world environment not in a clinical world of software writers.I know absolutely nothing about software development but it seems to me that there are compatibility issues with the phase one render engine as used in media pro, this is not to unexpected since the base software has change hands three times. To use another analogy, if media pro was a car it would be subject to a major recall for engine and transmission problems, the new manufacture would have to redesign his engine to be compatible with the transmission of the previous two manufacture. I have faith Phaseone will work it out in time but it is very annoying and time consuming to develop work arounds to integrate media pro into a work flow.

You are absolutly right, Wallace1, about development workflow. I can say that after 20 years of skill in software developmement, and in such big project management (in vision domain). However, I do not know what is what, and what happened with this Media Pro sw. May be it is easy to add a new engine to this car, it depends of how was made the car at the beginning.
What I am sure is that I decided to buy MP1 knowing that the soft is not finished. I have accepted to debug it. However,
I can agree with you, and I repeat it with my words : we are the bêta testers, just after paying the full price.
Yes, a software MUST be tested in the real life, and certainly NOT by the developpers. Even the validation team is unable to test 100 % the functionnalities (however, I have some questions about their regression tests). They are not customers.

What I expect today is that PhaseOne is listening our requests, and works with serenity. For instance, I am okay for many things, like the UI which is sufficient for now and not the most important, and I can use an MP1 working like that but without big bugs. After that, need to speak quickly about new functionalities. I am waiting for a product with the same high quality as Capture One.
PhaseOne, please repair the use of Phase One engine, the main reason I bought MP1 for, WIC is too bad.

I used to use Expression Media (and am trying to justify spending $ on Media Pro).

Also, I've been using (addicted to) the FastPictureViewer CODECs for a while now (especially since they have x64 Canon CODECs). I forgot how spoiled I've become now after opening up Media Pro / EM2. I can see it performs better using the WIC option, but it irks me though that I can't see the "rendered" previews of my C1 "fixed images" with the FPV CODECs though...

Maybe that's not important if I've created "real output files" from the RAW images.

Anyway, anyone who is just using the CODECs from FastPictureVIewer and isn't using FastPictureViewer itself is really missing out. Alex releases new builds of the viewer frequently... this image viewer / rating / XMP writer / IPTC thing is simply the best pre-processing step you can take.

If Media Pro could license FPV's CODECs and the VIewer itself... wow... that would be amazing (but not cross-platform).

I put FPV and the CODECs into my workflow because Expression Media was too slow rendering Canon RAW files to do successful culling of images.

FPV can zip through the images at full screen, 100% and 300% at blazing speed... I mean, like, wow...
I mean, even on an original Netbook, I can go through 1,000 CR2 files as fast as I want (i.e. I don't wait for FastPictureVIewer... but C1 or EM2 or MP1 would take 1-5 seconds in between each image to render).

I was hoping that Media Pro was going to address some of the speed and thumbnail sizing weirdness (setting sizes like "variable" or 640) but they haven't quite attacked that user experience yet...

I LOVE the light table in Media Pro (and Expression Media) - but it's punitively slow and its resolution is totally hampered due to the Preview thing. I thought it would be better using the WIC option, but I see that I can't get my C1 edits to show up as previews using the FastPictureViewer CODECs.

If Media Pro would / could make their viewer (and Light Table) work like FastPictureViewer (e.g. talk to Alex about some licensing or something), I would definitely want to work in it more. But right now it feels more like an "image cemetery"... it's where I want to carefully catalog things, import them, and hope I don't have to screw around with them much because it will just take too long to view and edit images.

I think I would still keep FPV in my workflow because it's so lightweight and fast to use post shoot.

For anyone interested, my workflow goes:
Import (using Windows Live Photo Gallery - which lets me tag, name, import images)
View / Rate / Move / Cull (using FastPictureViewer)
    Do Stuff (Capture 1)
Finish Stuff (*maybe PhotoShop, Portrait Professional, maybe back to C1 if needed for something)
*Archive (Expression Media - but I've kinda stopped doing this due to speed... was hoping Media Pro solved this)

Backed up on Windows Home Server
-- Next up... implement Cloud Backup on Crashplan.com via Windows Home Server

This sounds quite nice. If it saves me some time on my larger shoots, I'm all for it.
And if it simplifies my workflow, I'm all for it.
I will have to download FastPictureViewer and see how it fits for me.

It has a zillion keyboard shortcuts and some funny right menu things. So get into the learning curve and it will feel like a "Swiss Army Knife".

It also has a powerful "file processing plugin" for moving files according to rules you set up (based on metadata like ratings). Also it can use some GPU acceleration.
