You can submit feature requests through a support case:

You are right. This feature would be really great!

I agree with previous authors... "Do not import duplicate" useful and needed option.
I was very disappointed when do not find it in Import wizard in C1 8 Pro.
Waiting for C1 9 with new features? 😊

Yes, I miss this from Aperture as well. It would automatically hide any existing imports from the Import screen, an option you could toggle off if you wished.

It's not a solution and after the fact, but I see that Photosweeper has just been updated to include Capture One support. It might help.

If you are using Catalogs and referenced files have you tried the Synchronize Folder feature?

Potentially not as viable taking files directly from a memory card depending on how the system can identify the card as a "known" storage medium.

No I need to copy images from the card to the local storage - no use in referencing images on a memory card that will be wiped some day.

Import will do that for you but intended point was that the system would need to know (by setting a flag somewhere) that is had imported some files previously.

If the files to import are already on disk then a small index type file could be created and the location recorded and checked next time it is used as the file source. If, however, you import from a card on to disk and into a catalog/session at the same time there may not always be a unique card Identification tag to reference to - which could make things trickier trying to identify previously imported images automatically. In addition there is no reason to assume that, out of the camera, a file name will always be unique.

So there is some potential for the ability to offer such control to be a but hit and miss.

Why not just use the method Lightroom uses - it works very well:

    Don’t Import New Photos

Only photos that exist in the current catalog are imported. Lightroom determines a photo is a duplicate (already in the catalog) if it has the same, original filename; the same Exif capture date and time; and the same file size.

    No need for indexes.

Viable for a catalog provided one is importing to the same catalog.

Perhaps not so viable for sessions especially if importing to a new session using new import folders. Unless one is prepared to search all possible system storage locations in advance of import.

    Or so I would think.

That constraint would be fine by me but might be confusing to some.
