The same C1 session open on two different Macs
Hey,
So I have two mac pro towers both running C1 6.4. One is a "capture" machine to which I am shooting tethered via C1. The second machine is watching the capture folder via an internal network connection (hard linked). Both machines are simultaneously running C1 so that while I shoot you can see the images coming into C1 on both machines. I want to set star ratings on images from the second machine in C1. How do I get C1 to show those ratings on the first machine? In other words, there is ONE capture session located on the local drive of ONE machine. The session is opened on two separate machines. Is it possible to apply ratings from within one of the open sessions with the caveat that ultimately the ratings have to show up in C1 from the first machine, the capture machine. Sorry for the confusion. Anyone?

There are two ways to do this (sure there are more but... these are the simplest).
Quick and Dirty;
Session is set up on Shooting Machine A. Shoot to the Session in the Shared folder and carry-on like normal.
The Post Machine B simply shares the same folder and works in Capture One but referencing the Session in the shared folder. Performance on B will suffer depending on connection speed to Machine A. The main drawback here is performance on Machine B as it is working over a network and stability as, when the network drops (which it will at some point) the session crashes on B. The benefit is the speed to set it up and get going as well as responsiveness for adjustments made on B but seen on A.
Slow and Steady;
Session is set up on Shooting Machine A. Shoot to the Session on the Shared folder and carry on like normal.
Use something like ChronoSync to copy that session to Machine B. Machine B works off of that session locally.
Set ChronoSync to always honor the newest written file, so if B edits a file, that edit is copied over to A. If A edits a file, that edit is copied over to B. The sacrifice here is speed, as copying the files will take several seconds of delay between the two, but the gain is safety and software performance. You have a copy of the session already and both machines work Locally.0 -
Hey Drew,
Our servers are local and the connection hard linked. So, network stability usually isn't much of an issue. I've never had connectivity issues and it's never crashed. That being said, I am intrigued by the slow and steady option. In chrono sync, are u referring to a bi directional sync or are you referring to an actual setting in chrono that will "honor" newest edits? And, in either case, is it still ok to synchronize deletions? Additionally, if an edit were made on B (star rating) and then synced back to A using this method, and then subsequent to that sync those same files that were star rated were then renamed on A, upon the next sync, would those star ratings be lost on A? Thanks Drew.0
