If you're importing from CF card, you can use Import with Style.
If you are shooting tethered you can use a few options like, Next Capture Adjustments: Default with Style or Default from Clipboard and copy the relevant metadata to the Clipboard.

Well! I thought I'd tried that but I guess I did not!

    Thank you, Drew.

    Did I miss something?
You may import from a memory card, but the only styles you may apply by importing images are adjustments.
    But what about metadata?

Make metadata part of the Style.

Aha, and what if I don't want to apply a style, just metadata?

Make the style include "just metadata" 😉

Thanks, I was looking for such a solution since I switched from Aperture months ago. However, the feature is well hidden. Don´t tell anybody, it´s our secret!! 😄

Been struggling with this as well. When shooting tethered if using Default with Style or Default from Clipboard any changes you make to the image: exposure, white balance etc. won't be applied to the new image. In CO 7 I could do Copy from Last in Next Capture Adjustments and then in Styles and Presets have a saved Metadata preset or style selected to add on the metadata to new images as they came in. But this is not working in 8 with the Nikon D810.
