These suggestions are for the 7D.

    1. Keep away from Cap One with high ISO files - it's OK with the 7D up to about 800 ISO (1000 ISO at a pinch, assuming a properly exposed - or better, ETTR - file) but even then the files may need PP selective noise reduction. Cap One just doesn't do high ISO well: compare it with this, for example - 5000 ISO from my 7D (1/25 at f/4 - and 420mm, handheld while testing the stabilisation of my then-new Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 OS and 1.4x - so proper low light), converted in Lightroom, no additional/PP noise reduction. Cap One can't get anywhere near this, unfortunately.

    2. Do not sharpen in Cap One - save it all for the post processing stage.

    3. The 7D profile is not very good: I've renamed the 1D Mk III profile so that it's called as the 7D profile, and colour results are a lot better - less garish and over-saturated.

I shoot wildlife too, Robi - birds, in the main - and although it might sound like I'm not happy with Cap One (and there are things I'm not happy with, noise handing and sharpening being chief among them - highlight recovery could be better too) it's still my favourite converter for "good light" files up to 800-1000 ISO.

    Thank you for the answer.

Which application are you using for pictures over ISO 800? I tried LR4 but it's to buggy and to slowly 😉

I use Lr 4 for high ISO images, Robi - it's fine on my machine.

    Hello Mark,

I don't know if it's appropriate to do that on a competitor's website, but I'll write something on my website about it (not that there's anything sophisticated about what I do in Lr) and let you know when it's done.
