Improvement from 4.1.2 to 4.5
Hello,
Outside of loosing the ability to see a rule of third grid when selecting the crop tool present at all time in 4.1.2 - as opposed to only when dragging the tool - which has been removed from 4.5, is there any other "improvement" that would justify upgrading to 4.5 or staying away from it.
The release notes as often is the case do not bring any information regarding the non pro about any changes beneficial or detrimental (like the grid/crop) for the update.
If there is no advantage to update to 4.5 and on the contrary only loosing some handy feature, it is not very compelling to update to 4.5.
Thank you for clarifying the issue.

On "my" computer (XP 32 sp3) i "win" :
4.5 - Slower then 4.1.1
4.5 - Crashes at startup and shutdown
4.5 - Crashes at "focusing" 40D and 1ds3 files at 67%
4.5 - Crashes at "developing" any file... (imagecore error)
4.5 - Loose "capture camera" tab (it is a pro feature but present at 4.1)
4.5 still with BAD PREVIEW (the sharpen you see is FAKE) so you will have a different developed file than a image that you see in your monitor (4.1.1 has the same bug)
4.5 still with INDIVUDUAL CACHES (how good was 3.7x... about it) and no function to "cleanup preview cache"
4.5 still NO DEVELOPING READY ONLY (protect) files - 3.7x is OK about it...
4.5 and 4 looses the configuration "remove exif/metadata info from developed files" 3.7 is ok...
4.5 still with "SLOW PREVIEW/FOCUSING" unlike v3.7x
FOR ME (MY PERSONAL OPINION) - NO GAIN. ONLY PAIN. 😎
There is a topic mine here about "downgrade" for old version.
sorry about my poor English...0 -
....
For me (my opinion only) v4.5 is not a FINAL RELEASE... it is not a BETA RELEASE. It still in ALPHA TEST.0 -

did not happen to me.[quote="Nando" wrote:

I use olympus, no this issue. I tried a 5D file, no crash.[quote="Nando" wrote:

I think the preview is better.[quote="Nando" wrote:

This is not the software's problem. The way preview/focusing is working in this version just requires that amount of time to render an image. Buy a quantum computer when it's out, it's way faster.0 -
The sharped preview is better than 4.1, but still not the same as output. It does take less than a second to render on my machine, but there is a delay. That fact that it isn't instant, plus the fact that it isn't a 100% representation makes me wish for a toggle button to turn on or off the sharpening preview (like in 3.7) 0 -

So why v3.7 (a capture one software) at SAME COMPUTER do not cause that "slow render" ? Or ACR-Photoshop? ❓
but i will upgrade my computer and i will made more tests. Thank you!0 -
Well I am very disappointed with the stability of 4.5 - Just trying to edit about 350 pictures from a shoot. Bloody thing crashes about every 4 minutes.
This along with settings error on startup leads me to believe they rushed this out of the door just to hit the release date. The loading of folders is still WAAAAYYYYYY too slow what's the point of having cache previews if it takes this long to load!
I don't take too kindly to paying for software and then having to beta test it for them.
I'm going to try uninstall/install and see if that fixes anything.
I've been a user of C1 for about 4 years but am getting more and more annoyed with their updates. I for one can't wait for the next version of Bibble.0 -
4.5 seems to take roughly *ten times* as long to display thumbnails than 4.1.2... I wonder what's going on. I had no choice but to revert back. 0 -

Same here I got back to 4.1.2.
I am comparing with Camera Raw 5 as I just updated to CS4 and I am not sure of the future of C1 if updates become "downdate".
The new gradient filter and local adjustments in ACR are just great. The drawback is for my Pentax files C1 is still giving the best color.0
