Catalog of images on DVD
Here is what I'm looking to do.
I save my jobs to DVD for archiving and I'm looking for DAM software to scan the DVDs when written,so I can search for images via Keywords for the job 1st, then see the files with a visual of the images. Each disc is named by it's number i.e. DL DVD 128 and then has folders in it which are the specific jobs on the disc. i.e. Beckey & John, 10/10/2010 etc.
What I have been using so far is a program named Disk Tracker, but it does not have image support and only shows me file names. I'm looking for something that will show the disc I'm looking for and then also be able to show a thumbnail of the images on the disc. I'm not looking to keep the files on my internal HD's but I don't mind a catalog file as long as it is not the same size as all the DVD's I would catalog.
Anyone used EM to do this?
Thanks,
Pete

I haven't used EM to do this job on a large scale (I've done it with a small number of DVDs in a common catalogue) as I keep most of my images on-line, except for some on external drives that are not always on-line, but I can still search thumbnails & keywords, et cetera. Your use of unique DVD volume names makes the job even easier. All you need to do is mount the freshly burnt DVD, right click and select "Expression Media Import". Preferably with your main catalogue already open, otherwise it will create new catalogue and you will have to drag (or copy) the entries to your main catalogue.
I've been a satisfied user of EM and its predecessors, iView Media Pro and iView Multimedia. Apart from my digital camera images, I have a Nikon film scanner and have scanned tens of thousands of 35 mm slides, for myself, friends & the odd commercial job - always cataloguing them with EM/iView. Along the way I've gained committed converts to EM amongst my clients as well.
A great product. Not perfect, but well above anything else I have seen.0 -
Thanks, I'll give it a try the way you say to do it.
I've been looking for something to do it and it has not been as easy as I thought it would have been.
Thanks,

I don't think you'll be disappointed, and you get a 30 day try-before-you-buy time.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask, as I've done a lot of work with EM & its predecessors.0
