Reinstalling v4. A Way round no manual activation?
After all that talk of no manual activation i have just successfully re installed v4 on my PC with a new 30 days trial left.
While im not suggesting anyone does it this seems, for me ,the only way i can use this software as i dont have a net connection on my work PC.
Any comments PO?
Dave.

Hi.
No, just V4.
I cleared out the reg for PO/C1 references and deleted all PO folders.
I also installed .net 3.1. I dont kon wif that helped.

Understood, thank you Dave. Clearing all the PO/CO folders and registry keys will reset the trial period indeed.
I also do install SP1 for .NET Framework 3.0 as a maintenance procedure (to be more precise: installing .NET Framework 3.5 will install SP1 for both 2.0 and 3.0). It does not affect the trial period.
I had CO4 crashing during closing the application on my PC which was not connected to the Internet. I found out that CO4 (trial mode) wants to phone home to the activation server and was not able to resolve the server name. After removing any DNS server entry, the problem was solved. CO4 has a number of log files which are helpful in troubleshooting.0 -

All was working fine until recently when suddenly v4 would not open. It would get as far as the splash screen and then nothing, it would just disappear .
I did a restore and that threw the trial period out and then it said my 30 days were up. I undone the restore but still no joy and the trial was still over.
Someone posted in another thread about installing .net 3.1 to get v4 running again. It took me a few goes at getting all the PO stuff off my PC. I used search for the files and JV16 for the reg. It only found two keys i believe but it seemed to do the trick.

Dave, as in your case, I would not have started digging unless there was an apparent reason for it. For me it was CO4 forcing me to use Administrator level access (Power User might do) instead of Users level to run the application.
I used WinINSTALL free software (used for packaging applications) to monitor the folders, files and registry keys CO4 accessed. BTW, I managed to run CO4 as a User instead of Administrator (a non-supported solution of course).
For my curiosity: how did you do a restore? System restore point or restore from an image (partition) backup like Norton Ghost or Drive Image?
Thanks for the JV16 tip.0 -
Paul.
It was just a system restore in XP.
I find it strange that PO have said they wont allow manual activation because of piracy yet its so easy t reinstall v4 once a month.
Seems like no need to pay for it (im not saying this is what im going to do)
And thank you for the WinINSTALL heads up. ill give that a go.

You're welcome. I did use WinINSTALL 2003 LE, runs well on XP (and Server 2003)0
