I do not have much experiences with scripting however i changed some scripts. I know of a script that can 'read' the persons name and put the same name in the keywords. Maybe you could start with that script?

Do you have the scripting guide? () I hope this will be helpful.

Why not put the names in via the People database in Media Pro?

It is that function that has kept me as a fan of the product since iView Pro. From the People database you can then use a script to add the names to the description and to the keywords.

I think it is a brilliant function unmatched elsewhere.

What is the people database? I do not know this in MP1 or is it a separate programm?
I'm aware of the 'people' catalog field but that exact what's the original question is about; how to fil it with names residing in the keywords field...

Are you using Windows or Mac?

I wrote a Mac script to move selected Keywords to Subject Codes. It could be the basis of a script to do what you want.

The People catalogue field is a database and is my initial IPTC info location for the majority of my pictures. The database has nearly 6000 judo names with their country and weight category.

Part type a name such as "Sei" and immediately the name Seisenbacher Peter AUT 86kgs comes up or similar names such as Seidle John AUS 100kgs. Once entered the name is permanently attached to the image or catalogue and can be copied to the caption in database format and a comma is then inserted after the surname.

New names are added all the time after an event and may only be used once. If the pictures are being published or going on a website I will then add the names to the Keywords using a script.

Ok, You are using the EM2 vocabulary editor as a 'database'. However, it's just a flat text file:

it's even possible to constrain editing to defined terms to avoid typos.
However, i think both your and my remarks are not answering the original question...

I think it is a pretty good database and because I keep adding names at every event I can't constrain the names as you might do if you were following a football club or league. It is my ideal first port of call after ingesting with Photo Mechanic and the feature that has kept me using iVPro, EM2 & MP through all its difficulties.

If I was using another catalogue program or LR then, yes, the names would have to be in the Keywords but 6000+! It would be impossible as my pictures go back to the seventies. I think it is a pretty good feature.
