Just use [image name] That should do it.

More precisely, i would like to rename XYZ1234.RAW to 20130619_1234.raw, that is sooting data + the sequence number only

You can use the image's camera sequence number by using [Image name], but I don't believe there's any way to REMOVE data from an image name, once it's there. You could, for example rename XYZ1234.RAW to 13-06-08_XYZ1234.RAW, but I do not believe it's possible to remove the "XYZ" from the existing image name.

Is the camera issued number important to you after you have uploaded/imported the file?

Unless you also keep the originals ex-camera somewhere for backup purposes and may need to dig that out again at some point, I would suggest not.

Historically I have always stored original files with original names in a broadly date+camera based folder system to provide a reference back to the jpg files ex-camera should I need them. (I often do not save the jpgs for long term use so it is not always worth tryiong to import and go through the same naming exercise).

But in all frankness, thinking about that now, it seems a little pointless. I would, however, need to include some camera ID for completeness to be sure to avoid confusion when working with the files at folder level. Currently, in part, that camera ID come from the file. In addition for some Canon cameras the first part of the file name can indicate whether the JPG version of original file was shot with sRGB or Adobe RGB colour values set.

There are other ways to work with that information so discarding it is not a completely bad thing to do.

    Just some thoughts.
