You can process the image in the JPEG Quickproof format, which is limited in size, but is generated from the preview without reference to the original raw file.

That sounded promising but nothing was created not even an error message. I am still working in version 11 if that matters? I actually have a ghost jpg and raw neither processes.

What do you mean by a “ghost jpg and raw And how did you come to lose the image? Catalog or session?

Not sure exactly how I lost it. I believe it might have been that the import could have been set to import to current location. Not sure the why matters just if there is a way to retrieve the preview. I call them ghosts because the previews are there with seemingly no way to save them beyond screen capture. So they are there but not there "Ghosts"

I should add that the immediate need is past. That being said I always thought the Catalog was also a backup to catastrophic loss but if you can't retrieve the previews it's not a last resort option. This is the first time in many years of owning Capture One that I tried to retrieve a preview and kind of let down they seem to be hidden away.

Asked support they say there is no way to save a preview file in the event you delete the original files. So ghosts they are.
