Missing checkbox "Create thumbnails on save"

I have a vague memory that the checkbox is only required for Mac. Windows creates a "thumbnail" un-asked.

    I could be wrong.

The webinars are usually presented using a Mac.

Maybe someone can chime in and confirm or correct me.

That option is a holdover from a time when the thumbnails were not generated automatically. It's mostly not necessary to pre-generate thumbnails on modern OSes, and as you can see it's not even an option on Windows.

Thanks, Ben and Grant! I'm still a little puzzled. I vaguely remember a thread in a different forum where this issue was discussed in conjunction with the question whether CO predicts the size of the output-file correctly. Meaning the filesize becomes bigger than the predicted value, if a thumbnail was generated (and embedded) in the output file. In my case it seems that the outputted files are much bigger than predicted. For example: 789KB instead of 544KB as predicted. So maybe CO generates a thumbnail after all and doesn't give me the opportunity to uncheck the option? Or else this isn't true and CO simply makes a lousy job in predicting the output size.

Likely the latter, it can be relatively off when estimating file sizes < ~1.5MB on either platform, thumbnail or not.

It's not that simple. I did a little more fiddling around using exiftool to extract a thumbnail from an outputted jpeg - and indeed CO created one. So this seems to be the default setting which I can't switch off since there is no checkbox. I opened a case and the support says there is misalignment between the Mac and the Windows platforms which they will be working on.
