The auto adjust wheel spins round and round...

After importing to a catalog, the process wheel (or whatever it's called -- it's to the immediate right of the top middle tools) spins and spins and spins. Currently it's been spinning for 37 minutes. I click on it to see what Activities are going on, and the Auto Adjust mini-window pops up...but doesn't show any on-going auto adjusting processes and claims there are 0 seconds left in the process.

What is going on here? Can I just ignore the spinning wheel and start working on my pictures? Or should I wait until the spinning wheel stops? Will it stop? Thanks.
