Status of Nikon D2x WB encryption?
I know this may be an old subject, but I have been away from using my expensive C1 Pro software for some time because of this issue. I would like to know if I will ever be able to resume using it in my workflow or just right it off as another business loss. The most recent post that I found directly relating to this subject was posted in the R&D discussion forum on August 12, 2005, I've copied Phase One's response here:
>> Solving the WB issue is not a technical issue.
To the best of our knowledge it is not possible currently for 3rd party software providers (such as Phase One form a Nikon perspective) to get access to incorporate decryption data to handle the encrypted Nikon files under reasonable terms, but we are constantly monitoring such possibilities. If the opportunity arises we would incorporate the support in the Capture One software as soon as possible.
We are working hard on solving the issue and improving our support for Nikon cameras in general in the Capture One software.

In light of Adobe and Nikon's joint announcement on Sept. 2nd, here's the link to the press release-Adobe and Nikon, friends again: Digital Photography Review, I was wondering if Phase One will now be supporting the D2x WB in its C1 Pro software?
C1 Pro was an essential part of my workflow, until I started using the D2x. Because of the lack of support for the D2x WB, I have completely stopped using the C1 Pro software as it has totally obliterated my workflow by not supporting the file's WB. I have not been able to find a software solution that is as good as I had with C1 Pro before the D2x and my production of files has suffered greatly as a result. The Nikon D2x is far too good a camera to avoid using simply because the best software chooses not to support it properly, and therefore me as a paying customer, fully.
I say \"chooses\" because I find statements made by Phase One on this subject, such as the one quoted above, to be disingenuous at best. It seems apparent that Phase One has made the decision not to fully support the D2x, all but ignoring the needs of it's customers like me, paying only lip service to our predicament. Other software products have found ways to make the WB work, Bibble and ACR for instance, and Nikon has stated that it already makes available an SDK which \"...when implemented properly, enables a wide range of NEF performance, including white balance...\". I can only conclude that Phase One is unwilling to acquire this SDK and has decided it is too costly, or too much effort, or both, to bring this same level of support to their product.
When will Phase One stop \"monitoring the possibilities\" regarding this issue and actually begin implementing support so that I, and other customers like me, can continue to take full advantage of what is otherwise great software?

Hi Brett,
I saw your forum entry and wanted to follow up on it, since you're quoting me in your entry.
There is no doubt that we want to support a camera like Nikon D2X in Capture One in the best way possible.
We are currently making efforts to improve the support for files from Nikon D2X and similar in Capture One.
We are pleased to see statements like the press-release you referred to from Nikon. We are confident that through our common efforts we can give you, the end-users, better tools and support in the future.
Best regards,
Jan H. Christiansen0
