Sessions, Catalogs, and C1 freezing
Version 7 has been locking up on me with working as a session with folders that have at least 1,000 images in them. Technical Support suggested I use Catalogs. I don't understand why sessions worked fine with large folders in version 6 and now I have to go with Catalogs. I am starting to wonder if they are just guessing because the introduction of OpenCL and not setting limits on memory usage has made the program crash prone and buggy. Then they suggest that I turn OpenCL off since there are problems with it and I already have it turned off because that is what created a different problem. Catalogs seem a little too involved and anal for my use. I keep different shoots in folders with understandable names and dates for the folder name, I kept the session data in the same folder, and it all worked fine in the past. I don't want to spend my time being a librarian when it is not needed for my purposes.
I have a new graphics card on order that should support OpenCL, but another peculiar thing is that they have my current graphics card as being supporting OpenCL. But in Photoshop CS6 it tells me that my card does not support OpenCL because that performance option is greyed out and not selectable. I tend to believe CS6 at this point.
Does Phase One understand the new options they have introduced into the program and the problems that they can cause?

I have about had it. CO7 just crashed again - twice - and so bad that I had to shut the power to the pc down. The task manager showed all 8 G of memory in use, even after CO, which once claimed >6G, had dropped done to 1. This means a v bad memory leak.
Both times I was creating a catalog with <1000 photos in it.
I can only work in sessions, and even then I had some crashes when using the layers tool.
I have a new (2 mo old) laptop, and the drivers are all up to date. If it is an open CL issue, it is a CO problem, not a driver problem. Basically, CO7 was pushed out the door before it was ready and fully tested. One only needs to read the boards here to draw that conclusion.
And btw, I have paid to be a beta tester.0
