Hardware acceleration

When I set the preferences to automatically use hardware acceleration I receive message that states: "hardware acceleration does not work". Is this a problem with my hardware. I am running the latest version of Capture One and OS 10.12.5 on an IMAC 5K (Mid 2015) with the AMD Radeon R9 M290 2048 MB video card.
