New iMac Jan 2019

I am replacing mid 2011 iMac 27â€(pre-retina). 3.1GHz i5, 16RAM. C1 Pro v12 runs OK. Some lag with filters and moving sliders. Images on external SSD USB2.

Core i5 or i7? I donâ€™t edit video. 30k+ images in catalog.
RAM 16 or 32? My current 16 never appears pressed. Can ad RAM latter. I donâ€™t know if 16 is 4x4 or 2x8.
Generally approach max computer I can afford, but donâ€™t want excess that will not impact me.
Probably Fusion drive augmented with SSD external drives.
Recommendations for SSD drives? Thunderbolt?

i7, 16gb RAM should be fine unless you're dealing with large files in photoshop, you didn't mention GPU but it will serve you well to upgrade the GPU to max specs for the 5k 27" screen, even then it can be under powered for Capture One from what I've seen mentioned here on the forum.

I'd urge to get a 500GB SSD instead of the fusion drive also.
