First, I think that if you like to compare LR3 with CO, you'd better compare to CO6, not 5 as I think it is fair to compare current versions. Next, you'll find out that different software sometimes deals with aspects and issues differently which makes it harder to compare.

Having said that, and that I am less experienced with LR3 than COx, I would think that CO6 can handle what you asked for properly. More precise, it has a curve tool as well as levels, so no problem with mid tones and blacks and a brush for local adjustments.

Once you start working with a program and get involved, you learn its strengths. Main thing is that you start with an incredible level of image quality at the start and can pull all bells and whistles when your experience level evolves and reach new heights.

Looks like they are going to get some more $$$ from me, darn it! 😂

Does CO6 handle enlarging file sizes well? I have to use Perfect Resize 7 when I print anything larger than 11x14.

    Thanks again Paul!

CO6 can upsize up to 250%. I use upsizing frequently when I have a project to print. I set the paper size and dot/inch in the output recipe and let CO6 automatically upsize whatever raw file (10 or 20 megapixel camera) or crop I have. I am very satisfied with the results am it keeps my workflow uncluttered.

However, for very large prints, you could use specialized tools if you want in post-processing.

I cannot figure out the crop tool in CO 5. When I try to crop to a particular size, 8x10, 8x12 it does not allow me to crop exactly to that size. It continues to just allow something less.
Also, is there a quick invert procedure to flip horizontal to vertical?

I discussed concepts about crop tool recently in another post. Maybe it help you too.

Regarding image flipping: currently not available in CO6 (up to 6.2). I saw this mentioned recently here. File a feature request in a support case.
