    Dave,

Sharpening is like Garlic in Cooking, everyone has their own taste, but too much or too little can spoil a dish.

The strength of Capture One is that it eliminates the number of softwares used for image preparation, to establish an efficient workflow for your studio. If however you want to use another software for sharpening, then be sure to turn Disable Sharpening on Output in the Preferences.

The Sharpening of images in Capture One can be set in the Preferences as default, or established at the Focus tab. Default settings will be applied to all images upon processing. Once you adjust the sliders for any one image though, and the Default settings are no longer applicable.
Soft Focus is used mostly for close-up facial portraits of subjects because it can hide skin blemishes to some extent, remember the Soft Focus Filter for film?
You should be able to get confident with the Sharpening tools of Capture One so that you do not have to use other software for this task. Test of course, and see what works best for you. Printing of images is typically the best analysis of results.

The Save / Crtl + S saves all image adjustment data made thus far in working in a Session. These data can then be Archived and saved with RAW image files. Check your Preference settings for Saving, Save on Exit, Save on Changing Collection... these do the same thing.
    See Tips&Tricks: http://www.phaseone.com/Content/Softwar ... tings.aspx

    Hope this helps you out.

    Cheers,
    kc

    Thanks for the explantation.
Although im ok with the sharpening sliders i just really wanted to know the best (or at least the recomended) settings/workflow.
I find that sometimes a global sharpening is not needed or too much so im now using PSCS2 (or AE4) to apply selective sharpening which i cant do in C1. i did start turning sharpening off but have read of people apllying a small bit on output and wasnt sure if thats why the soft image setting is the default.
Ive never used the save feature but do use the save to archive all the time.

One other thing. in the link you posted about saving it says to import the files reverse the workflow. I thought C1 would just use the files automatically or is this meaning if you want a different set of adjustments loaded?
must admit i havent used a lot of the features yet.
    Again, thanks for your help

    Dave.
