Should I upgrade my PowerBook now?
I am trying to make an informed decision about upgrading to the new 17\" Mac Book Pro for my slowish but still functional 1Ghz 15\" Aluminum Powerbook.
Now that Capture One 3.7.4 is out and native, does anyone have any input on the actual speed benefits of upgrading?
I do a lot of location work with a P25 tethered to my laptop. I keep my sessions on an external FW 800 drive (since I can easily generate 60 gigs of images or more) and I am growing impatient with the amout of time it takes for images to render during the shoot.
I am wondering if an upgrade will help this or if am I just at the mercy of the buffer?
Anyone have any thoughts?
Many Thanks,

The new MacBook Pro is super fast compared to PB G4. If you run C1 and need to process files, it's quite fast. Between 20 and 40 seconds for a 16 bit file from a P25, compared to 3-5 minutes for the PBG4 (1.25ghz)
Other apps like photoshop run slower, but if you need just C1 it's great. It's faster than my G5 dual 2.5.
Get the 2gb of ram and the faster HD.
I would hesitate for a desktop machine when they finally come out, but for shooting, this laptop is great. The focus tool is very fast and C1 starts fast too.0
