Did I mistakenly hit a button and kill the layers function?

Opened up C1 (subscription version) this morning, and went to add an adjustment layer to an image. the layer formed; and the entire viewer went black; i can't see the background layer. If I invert it; the screen goes white.
I can draw/erase on it. it works; going to the background layer, it picks up the adjustments.
I tried the other layer types (heal, gradient, etc) and all behaved the same way.
I'm getting ready to type up a support case, but want to check the C1 community to see if i'm overlooking the obvious.
Desktop PC, Capture 1 Pro 11.2, Wacom, that should cover it.

Is it possible that somehow you are showing the layer mask in greyscale? Press M on the keyboard to see whether that clears it, or click and hold the paintbrush symbol in the layers tool and choose one of the other options such as display mask or only display mask when drawing. (Sorry, I am not sure what the keyboard shortcut for the greyscale mask is on Widow.)

Ian3 - THAT DID IT!!!!! Next time you're in Connecticut, your cup of coffee's on me.
I hit something; don't know that the keyboard shortcut is either. "M" cleared it.

If you click and hold that paintbrush symbol, it will show you what the shortcut is. (Alt-M on a Mac, whereas M alone gets you the usual red mask.)
