Can I rename a folder?
Is it possible to rename a folder in the Library?
I've searched through this forum and on-line but can't find out if it's possible; is it?
Thanks... 😊

Hi Richard,
Session or catalogue?
Which folder?
If sessions and you are thinking of the default session folders and want to do an "on-the-fly" rename then no not exactly.
The session folders are, in effect, just naming tokens, for a workflow function. You can make any folder the one that a function points to. You can rename the underlying folders (including the defaults that C1 sets up named as per the functions) using the C1 System Folders feature. That route should maintain the integrity of the file links. The Session folders will still display as Capture, Selects, etc.
If you want a session with differently named Session Folders or additional folders then you need to create a template to use when creating the session.
If you are using catalogues than I can't help you. No doubt someone who can will be along shortly.

I've not found a way to do it (I use catalogs).
When I right-click on a folder in the Library's Folders tool, the "Rename" option in the context menu is always greyed-out.
To work around this I add a new folder and drag the image files from the old folder into the new folder. Then I delete the old folder (both in Capture One and Windows).
If the folder that needs renaming is several levels above the folders containing the images, it seems you have to recreate the hierarchy which can be a pain.
It would be much easier if Capture One could rename the folder directly.

There is a potential challenge with all of this in sessions - probably catalogues too if the folders are simply accessible from the system folder structure unprotected.
There is nothing to stop me using the same folder as a source for C1 originals and for other purposes at the same time. Other editors perhaps.
Changing the name of the folder outside an application will likely break links. So links for C1 can be maintained but links for other purposes may be broken.
For that reason alone I am always very conservative about the idea of changing folder names - especially at the top of a hierarchy.
There has to be a very good reason to do it unless there is no currently known risk at all.
Just my opinion of course.

Thank you for the idea of creating a new folder, it worked a treat.
Just a shame that (as you said) the option to rename is greyed out (why?).
Thanks again, your input is very much appreciated.0
