Capture One 3.75 With Canon 400D profile
This is my first post and if this is not the right forum I apologise. I bought a Canon 400D to use as a walkabout camera. I upgraded to Capture One 3.75 today and decided to tryout the camera. In Capture One I am getting a green cast on an average of about one in six images with this cast using the 400D Generic profile. I thought that something I was doing or something possibly the camera was doing was causing this. i decided to open up DPP 2.2 to see if it showed the same cast. It did not.
I've posted an example of this here:
http://upload.pbase.com/markvm/misc
Nothing was done to the images except to convert back to 8 bit and resize and save as a jpg in Photoshop with sRGB for the web.. Also, I used "Auto" white balance in camera and the "Neutral" setting for Color Tone.
As i said, this doesnt happen on every image in Capture One but, it doesn't happen at all in DPP. I hope it is something I am doing (or not doing) and I would appreciate very much some help if any of you know what is causing this to happen.
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,
Most likely You are not doing anything wrong here.
We have confirmed the same 400D / Rebel XTi results in Support with a few Support Cases regarding this issue.
Images and Case notes have been forwarded to our Test Dept. for analysis.
Sincerely,
k c0 -
Thanks for the quick reply!! I appreciate it very much.

I have already raised a support case as im getting the same thing using WinXP and C1 3.7.5 for my 400D files
Lets hope it gets sorted soon.
I cant see why we are getting this. did PO even try it out with a 400D RAW file?
I cant see how they can say its supported when it clearly isnt usable0 -
I have the same problem . regards Chris 0 -
and it looks like we wont get a fix untill next year when v4 comes out
There is a thread in the Windows forum about this as well (mine)0 -
This issue has not been so cut & dry
Reports from users vary.
> occurs only using Auto WB, PreSets are Ok
> overly Green images occur when subject has lots of Green, otherwise images OK
> Occurs sporadicly, images within same photo session some have the problem of too Green while other images are OK
So it is rather strange.
Please share experiences in Support Cases or here in this Forum Thread.
Thanks Much,
k c0 -
Ok
Here goes.
AWB or any other makes no difference. still get the green tint
The file i posted to PO has no green in it but is very black/green in the shadow area's and skin tones. could be more than a WB problem?
all my RAWs (over 1000) from my 400D have this problem. i have tried all the workarounds like using a preset WB. no joy.
I wonder if this is to do with the Picture styles. and yes, tried changing them as well.
Adobe have cracked it so maybe PO could ask them 😉0 -
Hi again, tried all the presets stll green & contrasty on all subjects , tried it with on the jpeg seetting they look fine ,tried the 1ds it looks fine, something is not right. 0 -
I've got an xti and get the greenish contrasty cast on the images. I've found camera settings don't seem to matter. I have this hapenning with images with lots of green in them and no green in them. The same files produce fine images in DPP and in Lightroom 4 without any adjustments (auto setting). I noticed this problem last week when I got the camera and did some test shots. Yerterday during a shoot with a 1ds, I snapped a bunch of images with the xti for comaparison. Through C1 some images have the green cast some don't. However, none of the images from the xti look nearly as good as those from the 1ds using C1. This is not the case using Lightroom or DPP in which all the images from both cameras look great. I haven't seen a clear pattern but it happens enough to render C1 unusualble with the xti.
In the mean time, I'd suggest that xti/400d user use Lightroom and watch for ACR 3.6 which is supposed to come out very soon and will support the xti/400d.
I hope PO will work on this in an update prior to C1 4's estimated relase date of the end of Q2 07. PO seems to be intune with their customers needs/wants and I can't imagine they would make us wait 8 months for an update for what will probably be a very popular camera.

I ended up taking my 400d back and now have a 30d which is supported in C1 but the funny thing is that after using DPP for a week im now uninstalling C1 and staying with DPP.
One of the main reasons was that i have the etc 350D profiles but there doesnt seem to be a 30D one and so there is now no advantage to me using C1.

All strange greenish cast and contrasty tones from all Raw images taken with 400D, need to revert to DPP or silkypix to convert properly. 👿 0 -
i also have the same (green + wierdly exposed-but not all) images when using the profile. I put in a support claim and have a case # and hope they at Phase 1 re-release this profile soon as possible. Using Canon DPP is a real pain. Can we get a firmer (quicker) date of this re-release?
Thanks, Steve0 -
Hi just tryed acr 3.6 with the 400d works fine i still miss the work flow c1pro. 0 -
I thought it just the camera. I just spent a few days out in the bush and was REALLY surprised to come back to the panic of green photos.
Hopefully this gets fixed fast as I am not thrilled about having to resort to DPP.0 -
It appears the conversion routines for the Xti in both Bibble and Sillypix are very good at rendering detail....far better than the mush from ACR and DPP. I think I may dump Capture One and continue with Bibble as it appears Phase One have little interest in correcting a mistake that has been brewing for a month.
I presume that I should just wait for 3 or 6 months and not use my gear so that Phase One can release their next version. I don't think so.0 -
HI All:
Greenish tinted images from 400 D images is a bug and is being worked on right now.
Fix is expected in next minor update version of 3.76. which is pretty much right around the corner.

We realize this is an inconvenience, and appreciate your patience on this matter.
However as we know, Capture One is far superior to our competition and is worth the wait .
Please keep checking our website periodically for the release.
Kind regards-
JRA

Thats good news
I was told it wont be fixed untill v4.0 -
I heard version 4 as well and if it is indeed "just around the corner" with a 3.76 update, then I'll hold off. I was just about to convert my whole workflow to Bibble. 0 -
Please read the Release note for more info. We are kindly asking you to test that the software works well, especially if you have one of the latest cameras we like to hear if you see artifacts.
In version 3.7.5 Canon 400D had a bug with the black clamp that gave strange colors. This is now fixed.

Where is the PC fix??? I see no mention of this anywhere, nor is Capture One LE able to find any updates.0 -
Its not an update, its a beta and so is not on general release yet.
Just download it and run it. it will run out in 45 days (or something like that) by which time the official release should be out as an upgrade.
Its been rushed out to fix the 400d (and a few other RAWs) problems and it seems to work ok.0 -

The PC fix is located at the Windows Forum of course 😉
The program won't find Updates as this is a Beta and Not and Update.
