Tethered Capture over Wifi on Canon 6D

No real life experience with this combination, but I would expect that you need a tool to receive the images and store them in a folder. EOS Utility seems to me the most obvious choice. Next, in CO8 you use the Hot Folder feature to get the image coming in and having the last displayed.

Note that with Hot Folder you do not have the tethering features like file naming (you can do that in EOS Utility), and prolongating adjustments.

I'm not sure what the question is. How to shoot over wifi or how to shoot over a cable. This may be relevant for cabled issues.

Of course over wifi 😊 - but I want my camera connected via tethered capture, not just autoimport from folder 😊 If I have to be honest I would like to avoid any other applications and simplify the whole process...

This currently is not, and likely will not be a possibility in the future unless you decide to employ some sort of device that sends a USB signal wirelessly (and I've yet to see anything like this that will work with battery power, at which point you might as well be tethered).

The reason for this is that tethering connectivity for DSLR cameras is based on the software development kit (SDK) made available by the camera manufacturers. As of yet, Canon has not included this wireless communication protocol in their SDK which means Capture One can't make use of it.

Given that there are a number of other features available in EOS utility that are not in the SDK (and it's been that way for years)... I wouldn't hold my breath.

Using Hot Folders in Capture One right now is about the closest you'll get.

Battery powered wireless transfer of USB data is possible. 😁

You can do wireless tethering with any newer Canon and Nikon (and maybe Sony), including non-WiFi models. Have a look at DslrDashboard.

For non-WiFi cameras it uses a TP-Link wireless router, battery powered, flashed with a modified firmware. The tethering software runs on OS X, IOS, Android and Windows, IOS version is the only one to pay for. The camera is connected to the WiFi-router by USB.

Connect your Macbook, laptop, smartphone or tablet to the WLAN of your router or camera, and start the qDslrDashboard software. You have full remote control over your camera, including remote live view. The images are transferred to your remote device.

qDslrDashboard works with a Macbook and CO's hot folder settings. Tested with Canon 1Dm3 and Macbook Pro.

But I do have a little bit of a problem with CO's "Auto Select New Capture" feature in the hot folder. It's usually one image behind, maybe because of transfer speed.

    Regards,
    Hans
