Is It Soup Yet?
With each and every release if iView and now MP I have asked myself if it is ready for prime time. Well, with the release of 1.1 I was ready to jump in and commit to using MP with C1. I have been using C1 for close to 6 years. After reading one of the more well known retailers website this week, I realized that MP1.1 is still not ready.
I have been resisting LR, but I am no longer sure that I can wait any longer.
My suggestion, and I am a nobody, is;
Commit to developing MP as a world class product to blow LR away or just stick to C1 which is truly a wonderful product. Just don't want to be teased anymore. 😊
Chicken soup or split pea?

Hello from France. I have been resisting LR, but I am no longer sure that I can wait any longer.
I don't know if you are looking for a DAM, but if it is, do you realy think that LR is a DAM ? I tried LR (and ACDSee, and many others) and Media Pro, like its "father", Expression Media, is the best DAM I found on my way. Of course, there are still many problems, but I am sure (say, I hope...) that Phase One team will resolve them as soon and as well as possible.0 -
Iview was the best dam around, as was Expression Media. Media Pro would , if it worked. I have yet to get it to actually build a catalog of all my images, and I've been trying since Phase One first released it. Given the choice of LR or nothing, personally I have to go with LR. 0 -
It seems to me that P1 released MP way too early and as such did so only to stop the bleeding that LR created.
MP could be an amazing product and together with C1, second to none. My fear is that P1 does not have the intestinal fortitude to do what they need to do, spend the money and advance this product to a level where it needs to be.0 -

As I have said elsewhere here, I just think that P1 over committed themselves. Both C1 and MP are great programs, but both need a lot of support and updating in order to keep up with their competition. Couple that with not really knowing how to completely test a new release, and problems occur that make the users upset.
My experience in a similar market (hardware and software) leads to believe that it is a management problem, and, as you say, an inability or choice not to spend the money necessary to do it "right".0 -
I have been using Expression Media for about 6 months and am now on a trial of Media Pro. I like the layout and the appearance of MP very much, but it is too slow and unreliable to be used to catalog large collections of images. In my case, it seems to struggle scanning and generating thumbnails for more than one TIFF at a time. Creating a catalog of 150 TIFF files can take well over an hour and leave about half of the files unscanned. I then have to select each individual file and choose Action>Rebuild Item to generate a thumbnail. I have the same problems with EM, meaning that Phase One did not address them when they released MP.
I agree with those who say that Phase One was ill-prepared to produce a DAM program when they initially bought Expression Media from Microsoft. Unfortunately, they do not seem to have raised their game with Media Pro. Too bad, because it could be a great piece of software, but it will require major re-working by programmers with better skills in this area.

I used to use iView before MS bought it and I have tried Media Pro repeatedly. It is too slow just dealing with Canon 5D files much less P40+ files.
My workflow now consists of C1 Pro for quick selects and image tuning, then export full res TIFF of selects for import to Aperture as DAM and refining. I will take the file to PS from there if necessary.
I just tried the latest version of LR to see how their Phase One support was. It isn't bad, but it is still slow to import and slow when editing.
I really wish Phase would realize that they need to make C1Pro the best damned DAM and refining app there is. Forget Media Pro as a separate app... get the teams working together to produce a next-gen app that does it all, round-tripping is so last century!0 -

PhaseOne is a small company as far as software is concerned and is never going to compete with the likes of Adobe ,and not everyone wants to be tied to a one raw converter for life be that CO6 or ACR/LR and by combining the two there customer base for a Dam program would shrink even more.0 -
I am going to agree with Mr. Silk here. Everyone should remember that C1PRO is firstly a RAW software converter and the premium fee for the RAW conversion is justified with the quality of processed TIFFs from C1PRO when compared to any of C1PRO's competing products, namely ACR/LR. MEDIA PRO (neé Microsoft Expression Media) is first and prominently a digital asset managing tool. It's prime directive is to ONLY catalog and help the user organize his/her files.
I am AGAINST an all-purpose software workflow because when problems arise, it gets tricky to troubleshoot and isolate—not to mention performance issues. Just look at C1PRO. It used to literally fly! Now with the added modules, it became sluggish and requires extra hardware.
I think PhaseONE should put CaptureONE PRO on a treadmill and make it lose several pounds of fat that it gained over the years. Haha. MediaPRO could use some strength-training and gain some muscle to process large files and not TAKE FOREVER to catalog directories.[quote="Paul Silk" wrote:
